G5 to Get New Stadium: No Taxpayer $, No Student $, No Tuition $

Yesterday, voters approved selling city land to San Diego State University for their new stadium. Assuming the land sale goes through, SDSU won't be using any taxpayer dollars, raising student fees, or using tuition money.

That's pretty impressive. They beat out another measure up for vote that would have allowed developing the land for a MLS stadium:

That's pretty amazing. Says in the article that publicly-funded state university SDSU is paying for this directly, and will fund it with "revenues generated by the stadium's use."

At a cost of $250 million, and a capacity of only 35,000, assuming even a generous average ticket price of $100 a seat, the stadium would have to sell out 71 consecutive games to break even, all the while absorbing 100% of the ticket revenue (that I presume is currently being used to fund their AD).

Pretty adventurous for a lower-tier college team, playing in a town that couldn't keep an NFL franchise.
