Game Thread: Marshall vs Ohio State

This is a clinic....Marshall missing shots and no D doesn't spell well for the Herd.
 
Paint and Boards , boards both ends as well as style points in coaching attire - DD in his t-shirt looking like he just left Wayne County.
 
No D! LOL. This shows why DD needs to get "bigger" players so we can play with the big boys. This is going to be very ugly.
 
Has anyone ever taught these guys how to box out. We have 3 guys in the paint and the Ohio State player comes in, gets the rebound and scores.

LOL - I have lived in South Carolina for almost 25 years , to be truthful it makes no difference South Carolina , Georgia , Kentucky , North Carolina ,Tennessee , Mississippi , Alabama , Louisiana, Arkansas and West Virginia...pretty much the same bunch of hicks, just a little different accent , little different quirks..but hicks to the end. But I will say this , in some areas there are more opportunities for it not to be the majority.

DD needs to teach these guys how to box out. We are getting killed in the paint and a lot of that is because we are just letting guys run through the paint unchecked.
 
Out manned , out gunned , out everythinged , this is what happens when you tangle with the big boys. Huge difference in say the SEC , Big 10 , ACC vs Cusa.

No more wva people to coach at Marshall. They have no game plans can't get good players and there team's are over hype to the max and like tonight once again we are shown as a very weak team. So please stop this talk of DD needs to get this great basketball kid from Wva because as you see they can't play with kids from other states because those kids play against better kids at every lvl.Time to get some non Marshall alum/ has ties with coach's at marshall people here. Because this just isn't working folks.

Elmore is our best player and leads the team in scoring. He is from WV. Browning is 2nd on the team in scoring. He is from WV. I would be more concerned with our big European players not living up to the hype.
 
when you take as many shots as Elmore you better lead the team in scoreing.Euro kids blow so where is our big kid from wva? Why cant our players block out? Why cant our players rebound? And why cant DD MAKE IN GAME MOVES to fix the issues? ill tell you why because he has no players and not a dam clue.

The team has adjusted in almost every game to play much better in the second half. They were just outmatched by an Ohio St. team that played to their highest potential.
 
Very true sir but we still never stopped them from doing anything at all. my mom could have drove that lane for a score sir.
 
OSU beat North Carolina central by 6 so stop with the well now they are playing the big boys bullsht. ODU took Louisville to overtime and had the last shot to win in regulation. They are in our conference.

Butler, George Mason and VCU have been to the final four all since 2000.

Marshall shouldn't lose to anybody by 41 points and using the big boys argument is bunk. We played without our best inside player. We didn't block out and got absolutely owned on the boards. The bigs we had playing can't make a lay up or a shot close to the paint. Their guards consistently blew by ours.

I'm beyond disappointed in this game. I didn't think we would win especially without Taylor, but to basically act like a DII scrimmage game is embarrassing.

WV Kids. DD needs to reel Elmore in. Any one who shoots as much as he does should lead team in points. Also a major flopper. And won't play defense. Browning does good. Sees court well. Smart player. Bledsoe is not looking good at all. Very weak for a big guy. Wont box out. Kilgore doesn't see floor enough to evaluate but doesn't hurt team when in. Shoots well. Framptom is hurt.
Weakest point on team is Penava. Why is DD stuck on him? When he goes in, lead diminishes quickly. Also can't play defense so fouls way too much.
Gonna be long season if DD gets stuck on a rotation and lives or dies by it.

Really disappointed with the team. They didn't try hard, lack of effort. OSU got so many 2nd tries it was pathetic. Marshall didn't box out, didn't play physical inside.

I give Ahia State credit they played great but we didn't help our lot.

Get real, this Herd team in NO WAY resembles those teams from Butler, VCU and G. Mason. This thread clearly notes our big problems in defense, rebounding, offering NO resistance to other teams driving straight to the basket, etc. Clearly, the whole team emphasis is entirely on jacking up a three, whether by a guard, forward or center who heaves up bricks!! Other aspects of the game, D, floor play, rebounding, are apparently only an afterthought to this staff.

Yeah that's what I said can nobody read on this board. My point with saying VCU George Mason and Butler is that they are from non power conferences and have went all the way to the final 4. I mentioned North Carolina Central because they also played OSU and lost by 6 points. This is a team we beat by 12 and they lost by 6 to a team that beat us by 41. I mentioned ODU because they are in our conference and they took the number 10 team in the country to overtime.

The point of it was to show that Marshall77s post about how we played the big boys which is why we lost by 40. So my response was to show that using big boys as an excuse for being embarrassed is BS.

The fact is we played poor defense, didn't block out, were missing our best inside guy and our other inside people played terrible is the reason we were embarrassed not because we played some team that was "out of our league"

As the announcers said a coule of times if you live by the 3 you can die by it if you are not hitting them (paraphrasing). Had we been hitting the 3, would still have lost, but in my 10-20 point range where I thought we would be.

Exactly. I think that's the same idea both caliherd and I were both trying to make, only in different ways. Herd cannot just be "one dimensional" and strictly hang everything on 3 point shooting. Players and staff have to stress, and work on, defense, quickly making switches on players, learning to move into position quicker, on D and in rebounding, learning to box out better, etc., etc. We showed little in those areas against OSU.
 
Went to the game. Very disappointing. Elmore looked like the only player we had that belonged on the court. I do think Taylor would have made some difference inside. How much, I do not know? Not 41 pts though. Would like to see what the older Elmore can do- know he is a pure shooter, heard good reports in preseason and know he has the bloodlines? I thought he might be ineligible, but he got in late. Think Burks will definitely help when he becomes eligible.
 
Cali - the best inside player Marshall has would not have made a 41 point difference - you have to have more than one or two guys if you want to compete on the national level. Now if floundering in CUSA with the occasional fluke tournament run is what your after or is acceptable then fine. But that is not what most people are looking for however to this point DD has not shown anything that would indicate he can elevate the program to an acceptable level.
