Hypothetically speaking.

Let's see I go to Marshall and I am a chemistry major. I complete my degree in chemistry. Not in education, but chemistry.

I move to North Carolina and work in industry for 5 years or so. I then go to NC State and get a master's degree in chemistry. Work another 5 years in industry.

I decide that my calling in life was to be a teacher. The State of NC hires me as a teacher. I excel and go on to get Nationally Board Certified as a science teacher.

I go on to teach for 20 years in North Carolina. I am nationally board certified. I have two degrees and one is master's degree in chemistry. My reviews are excellent. I have not only worked in education but, in private industry. My grades in college were excellent and as you can imagine obtaining a master's in chemistry is not an easy task.

I get a calling to move back to WV.

Why does the state of WV and the teacher's union(s) block me from being hired as a middle school science teacher in WV? They tell me I do not have a teaching degree. But, I have 20 years teaching experience with a master's degree in chemistry and and nationally board certified. My reviews have been excellent. I can provide multiple letters of recommendation from different school principals and superintendents. The background check is no issue.

Are they telling me because I did not get an education degree and learn to make posters with crayons and the proper use of Elmer's glue that I cannot teach 8th grade science?

Crazy wv requires a education degree if they still do. Most people in life are practicing business in something other than what their degree was in.

I'm certainly not an expert in this area but I don't think your statement is true.

There are many alternate routes to teaching in WV. Of course this person could teach.
