This whole thing is kind of weird. There isn't much info being released so the whole thing is sketchy. It seems like a whole lot of trouble and expense to eliminate some street lights. I have no clue, but you have to wonder if there's another motive here.

The article I read from a science perspective said that satellites low enough in orbit to give off the type of light necessary to light up an area like they're talking about would be difficult to keep stationary. The Chinese are claiming three hundred miles but a professor from the University of Texas at Austin who is an aerospace engineer says that's impossible. He stated that satellites that presently maintain a geostationary orbit are at 22,000 miles. To give off the light necessary to light up an area of the planet would mean that it would have to be huge.

I'm skeptical about the claims but there isn't really enough info to know.
