According to many of these posts. No one likes to lose - especially our coaches and players. I suppose many of you who post are way to young to remember the nearly twenty years of losing under myriad coaches at Old Fairfield. If the internet existed back then you could really light this board up. For me I don’t enjoy watching the Herd lose in the fashion that they have so far but I’m not going to throw in the towel after four games and now the ones that will really count loom on the horizon. It is a new staff trying to implement a new style of play. I like what our new coach is trying to achieve but we may have to be patient until he gets the players he has recruited.
All the negativity by us (myself included) serves no purpose other than to make all of our armchair coaches give advice that our real coaches ignore. I need to be more positive and less negative about Marshall football. Something we should all be. Frankly we are indeed fortunate that we are even playing at all. Go Herd

Tell me about this new style of play

I get what you’re saying. But Huff was hired to make this team better and it’s gotten noticeably worse.

Do you think posting happy thoughts will make Huff a good coach and cause our coordinators to actually call a good game?

One thing we all like about Huff is he calls it like he sees it... The flip side of that is that we get to do the same.

Here is a short list of our issues as of this morning.

1. Our defense is bad, anchored by an absolutely putrid secondary.

2. We play special teams like we have never seen a football field before.

3. Our QB is a regressing turnover machine who can't make basic reads.

4. Our coordinators, especially on defense, who see these weaknesses week after week either can't or won't do anything to offset them.

5. Five games in and our guys look unmotivated and flat. Which is supposedly our new head coaches strength, firing guys up

I could go into greater detail but I won't. If you are okay with games like last night, then we will never be on the same page.

I sat through the 70's growing up and rooting for the Herd when a 2-9 season was the norm. This isn't about being a fan. I will be at the Joan on Saturday for HC. We are laying eggs against teams we should beat. We fired Doc cause he was going 8-5 every year and was always close but no cigar. Other "big time" coaches come in and take over and win quickly, especially when they take over a solid team. Huff may end up being a good coach but so far he hasn't got it done. I am not for getting rid of him at all. I do think he has potential so I am still with him but he is not above getting heat and right now the heat is justified

Sure feels like Snyder 2.0. anything bad that can happen will. Hopefully this is just a 5 game thing and not a five year thing like Snyder.

I think Grant's issue is that he doesn't deal with pressure situations well. I think he loses focus when he feels like he HAS to make a play. Most of his INTs are coming late in games or in situations where he feels he absolutely needs to make a play and he goes for broke. He's fine when the game is in an even flow and we aren't flailing and gasping for air as we drown. Even Huff said it in the post game. We continue to put ourselves in this "must have" and "must throw" situations and the defense is able to play you a lot different.

I don't know how Grant is going to end up. All I know is it took Cato until the game at Tulsa in 2013 for it really to click. That was his "over my dead body" game. I don't know when Grant's will come or even it if it will. With Zamora, Harrison, and Pennington coming in next year he has a very limited window to fix himself. Shoot just the fact that there is a Pennington on the sidelines is going to have fans calling for the head of whichever QB is on the field.

Sadly I think as long as Cramsey is here any QB we put out there is going to be at a disadvantage. He can't call a game worth a darn and he can't develop QBs very well either.

Yes. we are grateful to have football. But that doesn't mean we have to accept poor play and coaching blunders. We sat through those long 20 years to get this program to the point, that we can expect a certain level of excellence. We cannot use what happened in the past to excuse what is happening, that is not fair to the people that worked to get this program to the status it has. The past is our history, but we must not lower expectations now because of it.
