Green and White game and new turf

Yes. I knew a few days ago and I have heard just using the IPF as the venue and the Greenbrier was also mentioned. It could literally be played almost anywhere though. If MU is allowing tailgaiting then forget local high schools I would think.

Id say Laidley Field would be an option as well.

Have it at HHS with no tailgating. Not the end of the world. I do like the idea of having it in Charleston or the Greenbrier. Touch some fans that don't get a chance to see the Herd that often and hopefully gain some new fans. Good exposure.

Having it in Charleston or at the Greenbrier for a year is fine, we should try to make a day of it for folks in those areas with kids to come see the Herd in person (sign autographs, take pictures with the players, hand out some MU stickers and whatnot)... Glad to hear about the new turf at the Joan. I'm sure we have some sort of contract to have it replaced every X amount of years.

IIRC, in the past MU has held “additional practices” with no charge to get in at the Greenbrier and at Oakes Field in South Charleston in fairly recent times. Apparently there is a NCAA rule that says you can only have one “color vs color” game where you charge to get in.

Laidley Field is probably out. UC is 100% anti public education and 100% anti-Marshall specifically.

Ed Welch hated our guts.

UC does not own Laidley Field. It is owned by the Kanawha County Board of Education. They pay for naming rights and for use of the stadium. They also do not control the schedule for events other than their practices. Laidley has a stadium manager that is employed by Kanawha County Schools.

Why would you have the turf replacement scheduled to conflict with spring practice/GW game?
I would guess we had to do it when they had openings. The company likely schedules well in advance to line up workers, ship the turf, machinery and such. Just a thought.

We have the IPF to use. I guess we could use the rec. field a few times as well. That field just got new turf also.

Laidley field is owned by Kanawha County schools, not UC. As it’s a KCS property, I’m sure their would be no tailgating on their lot. The larger parking ,lot beside is owned by the state.

UC does have tents set up on occasion for special events, Homecoming etc. I'm sure it could be arranged. Even though it is School property, they do sell beer for the UC games. Other than the State lot there is not much parking available.

The guy that owned the FAS-CHEK supermarkets was a Harvey High guy and Welch was trying to get Harvey High into DI. Looking at the Big South conference. Greg White was doing the fundraising on the basketball side and this guy would buy out Laidley Field and give away free tickets so they could turn in that they drew like 18K or how many the place holds. Gave away free food and free beer. Did it a couple of times, back when Manchin was in. Manchin put up big signs saying he had waived the liquor laws on the state parking lots. That guy would take credit for the sun coming up if he thought he could get by with it. Did it for a couple of years. Nothing much came of it because nobody in Charleston really cares about UC. I think the guy is dead now.

BTW, apparently Shepherd “University” is looking at going DI now. Probably in the CAA.

Shawnee is a good idea. The county owns it. Large lot that probably could be used to tailgate. Not a lot of stands but plenty of room.

Kind of an olive/sage green, with white lines at five-yard intervals. Large white numbers will indicate the yard line at ten yard intervals and will feature a large white "G" on the goal line. White hash marks will mark one yard intervals between the yard lines.
And your source of this information is?

I heard it was gonna be gray turf with kelly green outline, hash and yardage markers. With kelly green endzones and "The Herd" in black with white outlines.

I don't care that much about what it looks like as long as we are getting new. However, it would be nice to see something a little different this go around. Maybe something simple like the alternating shades of green every 5 yards.

Not sure if sarcasm or not, since I'm subjected to reading Pullman for 10 hours per day, but what you laid out what look almost identical to Eastern Michigan's field. That was hard on the eyes. Not as hard as watching Boise, but hard nonetheless. Think it's just your mind not used to seeing something in a color you're not used to. Mind thinks green, eyes see gray, and my ding dong needs to pee.

It was mostly sarcasm. Yeah EMU's field is very hard on the eyes. Not good. But I wouldn't mind a field that's a little different - whatever form that may take.

I like the logo at Midfield. The "SBC" logo is going to coincide with our colors. I did a mock up of black end zones and "MARSHALL" in Kelly green outlined in white. It really popped.

Yes, I know some people detest black, but folks... the players love it.
