Guys

I have come to the conclusion that Marshall needs to drop to division 2in basketball. I know that sounds harsh but I think they could find more success there.
That is about the stupidest thing posted this year. BTW, schools take their entire athletic effort in the same division. We cannot pick and choose which one each sport is in.

A better plan?

Fire DD and replace him with a DI level coach.
Run off DD's Hillbilly Boys and Serbians and replace them with DI level talent.

It'll be sad when MU competes in the SBC and you're still on the sinking island of CUSA.

it doesn't sound harsh. it sounds like one of the most idiotic statements I have ever read on here. it hasn't to be trolling.

Are you honestly arguing that teams can be in one division for one sport and another for another. Any, yes I know about the hockey rule and the “Johns Hopkins rule”. Neither apply to this case

You simply do not know what you are talking about. Read a book and get back to me.

Davis and Elkins field hockey team played Div I.

The hockey rule says that a DII school can play DI hockey. As there is no DII hockey division any more.

The “Johns Hopkins rule” says that an otherwise small college can pick one M I N O R sport and play in DI. Johns Hopkins thus plays in the Big 10 in lacrosse, while is a DIII school otherwise.

NEITHER applies to MU. MU M U S T play in DI at all sports, It would NOT be allowed for MU to play DII basketball and DI football. NOT ALLOWED.

If you believe otherwise, you don’t know what you are talking about. That simple.

Thank you, that is completely different than what you stated earlier.

No it is just the simple facts that anyone who follows sports knows. Which I stated clearly upthread in my first post. You posted a stupid meme and have been made to look stupid. Best thing to do is not speak unless you know what you are talking about. In this case, you did not.

Yep

Damn, am I going to have to step in and moderate this ? I have my hands full already with the world going to shit, but if I have to I will come in here and knock some heads around and that is purely Division 1 head knocking.

A lot schools who compete in D1 basketball compete in a little lower level, FCS, in football. Schools in the Southern Conference, Colonial Athletic Association, etc. Also, a school like Morehead State, in the Ohio Valley Conference, competes in D1 in basketball, but I believe they are in D3, non-scholarship, in football! Another school in the same situation, I believe, is Dayton!

Totally incorrect.

FCS. What do those letters mean? Football Championship Sub-division . For football, and football only, Division I is sub-divided into two parts. The Football Bowl Sub-division formerly and still commonly called. I-A, and the Football Championship Sub-division formerly and still commonly called I-AA. Both are part of Division One, Division One is not sub-divided for other sports. Both halves, and what the NCAA internally called I-AAA, which are schools that do not play football at all, are all in Division One.

You might want to drop by the IPF. They have two football national championship trophies on display. Both read “National Champions - Division One”.

Morehead State and Dayton. Both are members of the Pioneer Football Conference. Because NCAA rules REQUIRE all schools (with the two exceptions outlined in an earlier post) to play ALL their sports in the same Division, eleven schools found a loophole. They compete in DIVISION ONE FCS (I-AA) but have agreed among themselves to offer no scholarships in football. This allows them to comply with the NCAA rule that all sports at a college be in the same division, but avoid the actual funding of football. Because of the low level of play, the league does not get an automatic bid to the NCAA Division One FCS Playoffs, and, AFAIK, no team from it has ever been in the playoffs. Likewise the Ivy and Patriot leagues have different scholarship policies than the rest of Division One FCS.

None of those leagues are in DIII. All are in DI, further sub-divided into D-I FCS for football only.

Once again, with the tiny exceptions of the “hockey rule” and the “Johns Hopkins rule”, all school MUST play all their sports in the SAME DIVISION.

Thanks for wordy "clarification". Really just a matter of semantics. Used to be, I believe, a Division 3, which which a non scholarship level. Which is what Morehead, Dayton, etc., are today in football. Whether it is "divisions" or "sub-divisions", pretty clear that many schools play one sport on one level and other sport(S) on a different "level". Like, as noted, in the CAA, Ohio Valley Conference, etc.

Nope. All schools have all their programs at the same level, with the two exceptions noted below.

Wikipedia is your friend.

The Pioneer Football League (PFL) is a collegiate athletic conference which operates in the United States. The conference participates in the NCAA's Division I Football Championship Subdivision(FCS) as a football-only conference. It has member schools that range from New York, North Carolina, and Florida in the east to California in the west.
