HUNTINGTON — Marshall University freshman guard Andrew Taylor took the basketball court Monday and started working on long-range shots with fellow freshman Devin Collins.

Within seconds, Marshall junior Jannson Williams walked up to Taylor with a question.

“Hey,” Williams said. “Have you heard back yet?”

It is a question that Taylor has been asked multiple times over the last few weeks and still, the answer is the same.

No.

Taylor and Marshall University have filed an appeal with the NCAA to grant the freshman transfer from Furman immediate eligibility, but Marshall head coach Dan D’Antoni said that no word has come back from that appeal as of yet.

I was told at the call in show Monday night that there were 68 players seeking waivers to be able to play this semester. Of those, as on Monday, only 35 had been ruled on. Of those 35, 24 were favorable and 9 non favorable.
Keep in mind that Monday was 1 day away from the opening day of basketball season for the majority of teams in America. It is obviously that The NCAA has no compassion at all for the players they govern.

MU has played this game before, without good results. Tom Herrion had 6'9" player from Canada, native of Africa IIRC, who went through a similar clearing house process. Well after the first of the year, deep into the second half of the season before MU heard anything!!

Who knows. Perhaps Furman is trying to leverage a football game with us as did VMI prior to releasing Elmore.

The ncaa is one of the most useless/corrupt organizations going.

They'll drag their feet and we'll get too late in the season and they clear him to be a partial where he can practice but not play.

No matter if they rule now or not, I believe Taylor becomes eligible at the end of the 1st semester, in December. As was the case with Elmore. What say you, Meister?

I may be wrong but VMI was holding up Elmore for an entire season. He eventually got his release. He did not sit out the first semester due to eligibility issues but suffered a severe sprained ankle right before the season began. His first game was the WVU game.

He came to MU in January and knew he could not play until mid December the following season. He played in the very first game he could play (NC Central). He had a sprained ankle and it affected his play in that first game. VMI did not or could not hold that part up. What they were doing was saying he would have to forfeit one full season and have only 2 1/2 years to play instead of 3/12, which in the end is what he got.
Andrew came in January and by NCAA rules would not be eligible until mid December. Since he only was in school for a week or so and what what he felt was a good reason to leave, he petitions to only have to sit one semester instead or 2. Furman is on board with it and is not opposing in any way.

True, but he will miss the big OOC games if he isn't cleared.

He is already practicing, since he was a transfer and not a NQ. He spent just three damn days at that school.

Well, based on early "returns" Purple Paladin basketball hasn't lost a beat and is doing just fine without Taylor. Tonight, in the latest example of "Oh how the mighty have fallen" department, Furman drubbed Loyola of Chicago by 24 points! Hope that old Sister/Nun who is such an avid Rambler basketball fan is doing ok!
