Herd loses 8-4. Played decent, definitely had some mistakes and base running errors. Umps were in favor of the Herd I thought on some calls.
4200 in attendance.

Probably 85 per cent of those in attendance were for WVU I would bet. Fact is that MU probably makes more $$$ off of this game than the rest of their home games combined. That would certainly explain some of bonehead playing and coach's moves, or lack thereof. Keep the EERS happy, i.e., LOSE. And go home with a big check. Part of the sad, sad overall $$$ status of Herd athletics these days!

To be fair, No.21 WVU won the weekend series with No.3 TCU. Despite some shaky relief pitching, WVU is pretty good this year.

I'd say a few more WVU fans than Marshall supporters; maybe three/fifths to two fifths. But they weren't all that vocal. We left a lot of men on base and had some bonehead base running. What did stand out was how badly we need a stadium -- a shame that our people have to travel 50 miles to see their team.

We have discussed Justice a lot the last several days, but the lack of leadership on the baseball stadium reflects poorly on Hamrick. Waggs will leave because of this issue. Got to get this problem fixed. asap.

Marshall can NOT build a stadium on its own. The city and Marshall have a plan in place to rent a stadium. The only way it can happen is from a private entity that is already in place

I would go with the 3/5th 2/5th blue to green ratio. The city, which is to say the mayor's boyfriend, again made minimum effort to handle a crowd that is far larger than 90% of Power games. Many concessions closed, 2 of the 5 permanent ticket booths open and none of the portable ones, ran out of some brands of beer, ticket lines did not clear out until after the 2nd inning, concession lines were at least a full inning to get something. General disrespect, they always go out of their way to make us feel unwelcome.

Herd played OK against WVU's best team ever, and, facing that, a good showing of Herd fans. WVU will probably be a 2 seed in a regional, they are a solid team, but that is as far as they go.

BTW, anybody who thinks JCES is dirty has not seen Power Park.

Marshall has a good team. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I am really impressed with how good of a team Marshall has to have such poor baseball facilities. The relief pitcher (#12, don't know his name) is really good. I think he threw 2 2/3 innings of no hit baseball. I would love to see a decent ball park built here in town (Huntington).

Just a curiosity question, it was a Marshall home game, is the city of Charleston or WV Power or someone else responsible for manning the ticket booths, concession stands, etc?

As I understand it, MU pays rent to the city. MU keeps what ticket revenue is left over after the rent, and the city runs and keeps the concessions, and does the field prep and cleanup. MU is allowed to operate a small souvineer stand. MU operates the scoreboard and sells its own ad package for that, the permanent ads on the walls and such belong to the city.

The ticket booths are operated by MU students, but MU is required to use the city's computer system, which involves multiple steps and prints (slowly) a ticket for each transaction. For the Power, which have assigned seats, this makes sense, but the MU games are all general admission, MU could simply use a roll of pre-printed tickets as is used for other non-rev sports, but the city insists MU use its system. This is the issue because each transaction takes 30 to 60 seconds, while it could take 10 seconds.

But yes, MU should have at least have had all the windows staffed, and we did not. The city certainly cut its own throat by not having the concession stands properly staffed, but this is not unusual, there have been MU games, reasonably well attended MU games where the city did not even open the stands at all.

I don't think the city has anything to do with the day to day operations of the park. I believe it is run by the WV Power Staff. In the past the WVSSAC used their own tickets during the State baseball tournament. Marshall may have a different arrangement. The year that I announced the state tournament the Power staff ran the scoreboard and video boards etc. The ads were provided by the WVSSAC. That was probably 6-7 years ago.
