Marshall gets outscored 49-34 in the first half @ MTSU and could not overcome the large deficit in the second half (40-34).... losing 83-74 to the Raiders. Marshall smashed MTSU in Huntington, Jan. 28...82-66 (+16). The Herd's record stands at 15-14 (11-5). With UAB edging WKU today to run their home court winning margin to 25 wins, the Blazers wrapped up the number 1 seed for the CUSA tournament to be played on UAB's home court...March 8--12.

Marshall's early season schedule, starting (0--6), will haunt The HERD when it comes to tournament bid time. Marshall MUST win the CUSA tournament to go to the BIG DANCE in March. An NIT bid could be an outside possibility too because of The Herd's complete resume of about .500 for the season. I quickly looked at the schedule, without checking my numbers. Marshall recorded 5 wins (10 losses) on the road; at home MU was 9-3 and on neutral floors, posted a 1-2 record (beat Wyoming, losses to wvu & Grand Canyon. Alarmingly, an exhibition loss to Div. II Newberry at home.*

The HERD must win both games in Huntington next week [La Tech & S. Miss] to earn the No. 2 seed in Birmingham. If so...The Herd should play in the 7:00 PM game, March 10.

Nothing wrong with it, just stating my opinion where we might end up. If we do, I hope we get some home games. If we are fortunate enough to win the conference tourney; all the better. I'd be surprised to get a NIT invite.

true don't expect an NIT bid. However, we could win the Tourney and go dancing! I would say a CIT/CBI this year looks like a good opportunity to build for the future. Go Herd!

If Marshall wins the final 2 regular season games and goes to the CUSA tournament finals and lose I think we would get a NIT bid. Second in the conference regular season and second in the tournament especially if it's UAB that wins it. Just my opinion.

The tournament is in Birmingham but not on UAB's home court.

Aren't you basically ranked like 200 to be in those? I don't keep up with basketball, but I know the main tournament alone is 64. NIT is another, what, 32 teams? Once you get beyond that... who really cares? I mean, damn.

One way to look at it, Jeremy. On the other hand, the Herd is barely an insignificant blip on the national collegiate basketball scene. A regional power? Not hardly!! The reigning KING on the Cabell-Wayne collegiate basketball scene? BINGO!! In other words, with no NCAA appearances in over 3 decades, and little in the way of ANY post season success since the 1960s NIT teams, the HERD has to start somewhere. Play and win a game or two against some "name" schools in one of the lesser post season tourneys would be a positive start to building MU's basketball reputation.

I would bet we make the dance if we get a 2 or 3 seed in the CUSA tourney. Yea more likely UAB in the final but they beat us two of two, and I don't see them beating us a third time. Also it about time for Loop to start playing some ball and having fun.

Folks LA Tech this week isn't going to be a push over.. we need to take care of business, we went from being squarely in second place to being dangerously close to dropping out of the top 4 if we don't defend the home court this week.

They have our number.... At home, winner takes all conference tournament championship.... I love the herd, but no way man, no way.
Thompson need to start of Loop cause he has not showed much and I been to most games very rebound and points. I really like Loop cause he's a local and coming off the bench may help him.

That's true as well. Also, it's a good thing you said collegiate, otherwise I'd probably take Huntington Prep in a one game, winner takes all scenario. lol. (not really)

lt would be a great win in terms of getting to 2 or 3, but a win saturday against a bad southern miss team, with nothing to play for, would be enough to get us in the top 4.

Right, but if for some reason we took them lightly and didn't show up to play and lost both games this weekend it could potentially cost us the top 4 seed. So we need to make sure we come out and play both of these last 2 full tilt.
