They appear to be bright-eyed and on their game. We appear to be very sluggish and in a daze. How many open 3-s have they had? They have shooters and it seems that we don't.

If anyone went to the game - what happened or did not happen that did take place at Notre Dame and Florida. Made a late run to cut the margin of defeat but at one time ( I checked the score quickly as I was in a meeting ) it appeared we were down by 16 -18.

Anyway if any was there or watched somehow , please give a brief report.

Slow start
Dug a hole we couldn’t get out of
Played well the rest of the game
Beat them in multiple statistical categories
1 and 20 couldn’t miss early
Iran is coming along very nicely
Dillon played solid in the second half
Beyers didn’t play second half but was on bench
Williams didn’t come out for the second half. Heard stomach virus
We just need a shooter. I truly believe that is all that is lacking
Two players beat us. 1 is good. Seemed like 20 had a career night.

They killed us on 3's and rebounds. They had open 3's all night long. Our defense didn't match up well w/ them, obviously.

"wo playing beat us." Maybe we should guard them?
After watching the game IMO we have 5 individuals not playing as a team on offense regardless of which players were on the floor. Either not much coaching or players have been over rated in pre-season. We had at least 3 air balls that I saw, and another came up short and barely grazed the rim.

Hard to watch after all the pre-season hype.

Read on Herdfans after he was taken back to the locker room he was sent home. Flu is what the poster said.

Credit JReese from Herdfans:

Jannson was sick enough that he almost threw up on the court. We straight to the locker room and had some serious flu symptoms. Got an I.V in the locker room and was sent home before the game was over so that he did not pass it to the rest of the team.

Hope Jannson is feeling better. On a team of players ' who can't shoot straight ' Jannson should be shooting the ball twenty times a game, but last year and again this year on offense he seems like an afterthought. DD needs to address the problem.

Hard to watch after all the pre-season hype.

What pre-season hype? Every national pre-season guide picked this sorry team somewhere between 8th and 12th. The coaches picked it 11th. No national writer mentioned the team in any articles.

The only hype came from a few posters here. Mostly about “looking good in practice” and such.

All the reason we should have taken the Justice kid and found a place for Sustic to land or give him a non-roster duty of some sort. Justice is playing well for WKU. Had 17 points last night.

I think Danny needs to play small and fast, the slow down big boy ball just doesn't work for us. I know he's trying but our bigs still get out muscled and Bennett can only play for so long, although he is playing well.

As opposed to the football debacle. Picked to win division, but don't show up in two most assuredly winnable games. Thus, sitting home this weekend, AGAIN.

Actually, most national guides picked MU 2nd or 3rd, although the official media poll did pick MU 1st. Most importantly the over-under season wins line from the Las Vegas casinos was 7, which (sports gambling is legal in WV now) I bet and won big on. About what was expected, won a few games we should have lost, lost a few we should have won. About what was expected.

Don’t remember a lot of preseason hype. And the reports from practice were that this team would take time to improve and should be competitive by conference season. It’s only 12/5. Seems like what most expected at this point considering the amount of offense lost from last year.

Most national guides picked Marshall 2nd or 3rd in the East? I’m gonna need some links for that... Also, 7 is not an option for an over/under. Marshall’s was 7.5 preseason which was tied for highest in the conference.

so in your opinion this is better than football who missed the championship by 1 game? What year are we in with Dan? And he has this bad of a team?

Maybe Dan isn’t the answer...

You are trading on thin ice even questioning if Dan D'Antoni is the man for the job. LOL

I think the Preseason Hype was on this board and bandwagon jumpers after the first few losses in football saying they can't wait till basketball season. I'm not smart or patient enough to search back through posts to prove that.

Well, I am not satisfied with 8 wins. Apparently,I neither were about 20,000 other fans who didn't show up last Saturday. Should have been 10 minimum. What games should we have lost, but won? And we all know the "few" we should have won, but lost.

Didn't say it was better than football. If you're not in the championship game, you're out. We're out. Missed it by one game.Actually, we should have won the division by 1 game, which would make it a 2 game spread, i.e. MTSU, Charlotte.

redsfan5590 is just a hater. It's ok, since he's not a Marshall fan. Given time, this team will improve. Gotta be patient.....isn't that what Sam would suggest?

…..comparing this point in the bball season to football would put us at about the 3rd game of the season.....1 more non-conference stretch and then we hit conference. And, just like football, isn't conference what it's all about?

Dantoni has won as many conference titles as John has, why so much hate for Dan and love for John?

I get that you are trying to be funny, but nobody is expecting DD gets fired after this year, even if it goes as anybody paying attention understands it will.

What I, and I think many others, see is the illogical juxtaposition between the football illiteracy of attacking Doc, and, worse yet, Mike, while setting Danny up as this super-genius coach based on one year. Combined with the unrealistically low opinion of what CUSA football is, and a yet more unrealistically high opinion that ignores just how easy CUSA basketball is.

Now, should Doc have another year like 2016, considering his age, he probably should retire. He certainly has earned the right to go out on his own terms. No one but a total football illiterate want to run off a coach who, with one exception, keeps this program at a high level every year.

Now, after this basketball season, and, yes, let’s let it play out, ends as most think it will, if there is not a reasonable unbiased expectation of improvement, next year or certainly the year after, then the time to start talking about moving on has to start.

Yep. That is me and that is what I said.

I don't think you are that far off in terms of basketball. I am still optimistic. If Dan would have 2-3 seasons in a row where we finish below .500 ball, it would be a concern. But so far, his only losing season was his first, and there has been steady improvement ever since. Maybe the loss of Elmore & Burkes will be the difference maker, but let's see what the addition of a talented QB (Taylor) point guard (even though he is a frosh), does for the cohesiveness of the team going into conference play. And certainly D'Antoni, son of Marshall, part of its iconic 60's history & THE single person who has breathed life back into a very moribund program, has long since earned the right to go out on his own terms as well...….

Recruiting concerns me more than anything as he consistently fails to put an entire team together. Always seem to be missing either a superior big or a wing or point.

Ah W/S -did Dantoni not realize that both players you noted would eventually graduate? You dont wait until they graduate to recruit for their position - that should be an automatic.

Agreed 77.....I have heard that critique as well. The 304 concept and all.....

And in football you should recruit a QB who is talented and can lead. I'm reminded of a young hs sophomore qb in my town several years ago who was running the first team with a bunch of upper classmen in his unit. They were having fun and cutting up in the huddle. Said qb told them to shut up, pay attention, and listen to what he was saying. Good leadership. By the way, he led them to a couple of state championship appearances in his 3 years at the helm.

Not a hater. I love Marshall. That’s why I wish we had a decent coach...
