If you are watching the Va Tech vs WVU game on ESPN NOW THOSE ARE FIREWORKS! Just saying why can’t we have that show here at the Joan?

I know that’s cliche but it’s true. The acc per team payout is about the same as the entire Marshall athletic budget

I really wish we'd embrace Thunderstruck like they do Enter Sandman.
I was telling my wife, their students are involved and engaged, OURS stand there and look at their phones. The crowd gets into, they don't blare rap music every break. LOL!

We need to establish some crowd routines, first down chants, 3rd down defense chants, PA announcer has to lead and be enthusiastic - have a damn pulse. the band has to play constantly and get the crowd going. We are just lame and old in what we do - which isn't great to start with.

Most don't want to hear this because the belief around here is because it's Marshall than it's good enough. The reason we don't get ESPN Gameday and all of that is because our gameday atmosphere sucks. You watched that last night and it was like a big production. That's what networks want on their channels. Not to mention our stadium only fills about halfway.

It's the typical west virginia mentality though. Do enough to get by then wonder why no one wants to get involved with us.

Imagine you're an 18 year old recruit and you walk into that and then in two weeks you visit the Joan to a half empty stadium with a sorry intro, the crowd sitting on pivotal downs, and four bottle rockets let off at the 4th quarter with the weakest thunderclap ever.

Well, the last decade or so all we hear coming from the Schewey is how hard they work, we're trying, we can't do everything, we're poor. BS! They do just enough to cover their asses. Hamrick didn't give a shit about the game day experience, thus, it wasn't a priority.
Hoping Spears can change that thinking. Our fan base will show up for an exciting team and good overall experience. It's just not fun to attend, other than the game.
It can be much better without costing a bunch of money. They can't get organized and in sync.

Gameday brings its own atmosphere. It has national groupies that follow it around, and if it ever made it to Huntington we would see as many non-alumni fans of the blue and yellow, scarlet and grey, and blue and white as Herd fans.

The reason we don’t make Gameday is pretty simple. We were already on ESPN’s short list again this year. And then we were out-coached and out-played by a bottom feeder MAC school that lost to a I-AA. The reason we are not on it is because we do not deserve to be.

Of the G5, ESPN is the most sold out to the SBC. It wants to pump up the league. That is clear. It was ready to feature us in the center of that. We blew it, and they moved on to ASU. If CCU can stay undefeated, they will go in that direction.

The hype is there for the taking. All we need to do is get better.

The only way we are getting Gameday this year is if MU and App win every game until we play each other... Which would be a blast, but is pretty unlikely.

Week 11 doesn't have much as far as "marquee" games... Alabama at Ole Miss is probably the frontrunner for Gameday on Nov. 12, but that's subject to Ole Miss falling off the map like they do every year once SEC play starts... There are no other games with two currently ranked teams playing each other.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Lol we don’t compare to a school like Virginia Tech, but surely we have enough funds to be competitive with Cabell Midland High School.. they literally have better fireworks than us.

With some lighting upgrades, possibly scoreboard tape style upgrades, a better sound system. smoke, a firework or two, .. some flames for the start.. a real lightning bolt.. then.... maybe....

Better yet bring back the real Marco, who’s gonna want to mess with a team who has a real buffalo. Lol

In the end, I think it starts at the top. The university has to invest in its football (flagship) program in order to establish the brand. See Appy State. They have been doing a great job investing in it's program, helping the community buy into the design. Now, they sellout games. Reguarly. The fans are now going to be apart of what is rising. I've been, it was fun. Spears and Smith, give them time. I believe they also see that, and want it for the Marshall community. If they can get the dark cloud of a baseball stadium in the past. Maybe we will some big future upgrades to the Stadium experience. So many small changes can make a big difference.
