Let’s see Doc works for Hamrick and both work under the umbrella of Jerome Gilbert. The three need to be having a conversation regarding g the future of our football program but I suspect Gilbert is not concerned unless people begin to complain to him directly or people over him begin to complain. Otherwise since Doc won the CUSA east division, okayed in the CUSA championship, and will more than likely play in an unimpressive bowl game he will receive a contract extension and decide not to retire. Thoughts?

I said in another thread that I have a real eerie feeling Doc will be back on the sideline next year.

You may want to transpose two of those names. ;-[

I don’t think Gilbert gives two sh!ts about football or athletics in general.
He came from an SEC school, he knows how valuable sports can be.
That said, he won’t fire Hamrick or Doc unless there is a huge outcry from major donors.
It’s Hamricks job to hire and fire coaches.
Doc will be back next fall. UGH! Jmo

He came from a perennial sec mediocre at best team. He thinks 6 and 5 is good or finishing 2nd in your division or runner up.

His job isn’t to run the AD. It’s to lead the school. Any SEC President or admin knows the importance. I wouldn’t say he thinks 6-5 is good enough.
I’ve never heard of any school presidents firing a coach. Now an AD , sure.

I will say that I have heard him speak of how he values the athletic programs.

Bottom line, Mike won’t fire his buddy. Doc will either quit or the donors and BOG will force Gilbert to do it. I don’t ever see they happening.

Saying this is Gilbert’s fault shows how emotionally driven your thinking really is. News flash: there’s more to Marshall University than athletics. Judging based solely off of academics, Gilbert has done a great job since he’s been here. Focus your frustration on the real problem and your takes will be taken more seriously.

truth is Doc isn’t going anywhere, playing in the weakest conference provides job security.. he’s mediocre and people above him are happy with mediocre.
