Houston hires Lane Kiffin

That school has too much money and presence within the state of Texas, to be in the AAC. They were completely scammed by the Big "12".

They pay their assistants more than any other G5 school and more than some P5. They pay more than WVU does.

Houston is probably the 5th or 6th most popular college team. In Houston. It has no place among the Little 8.

It will be grand to see Lame melt down, once again.

Too much money? They are the most heavily subsidized school in the AAC. Of their $44MM budget $26MM came from student fees and direct university support. If we received the same amount of subsidy as Houston our budget would be $42MM. In other words, we generate as much revenue as they do from their operations, ticket sales and donations.

Alot of those AAC schools - Houston, UCF and ECU to name the more extreme examples - have been pouring money into their programs hand-over-fist trying to get on the P5 Mothership, but that b---h ain't landing. Hell, Tulsa went $110 million into debt trying to puff up their program, and they still have about 10,000 fans.

I'm critical of what Marshall has done over the last twenty years, with regard to grossly inflating the athletic budget while remaining essentially stuck in neutral, but these are some examples worse than us. At some point, the world of college athletics needs to be broken down into "For Profit" and "For Fun." There are a lot of P5 schools that would fit in that second category, and all of G5 should admit that's where they are as well.

Dial it back, and for the love of god stop using the term "arms race." This isn't war, this isn't actually important.

UH has several big name huge money donors. Top one of which is one of the richest men in TX, if not the richest. Tilman Fretitta (owner of casinos, several resteraunt chains about 10 or so, including Landry's) host of the show Billion Dollar Buyer. He is also on the board of Trustees/Regents whatever they call the governing body of the university here.

They have plenty of money.

If Marshall and the State of WV of had the money they would do it as well. Texas, Florida, and NC have grown tremendously and have had vibrant economies for the most part for 30 years.

That's the difference. Money because their state and areas are growing and have money.

If you could pick Marshall program up and move it to an area that isn't flooded with splitting time with other programs and a larger population we would be beyond where we are today. Even if it were a bigger area with other schools around. With our history it would thrive. I think it would anyway.

Really? Houston's budget is half the size of WVU's. I haven't seen a breakdown of football coaching salaries but I just find that assertion to be either wishful thinking or flat out wrong.

I got it from CUSA Today. But I was incorrect, looked at the numbers wrong. Houston pays something like 2.4 Mil to its assistants, while WVU is around 2.6. Mil. My bad.

Who cares????. Houston owned your conference champion and is the Big 12 Champ.

On the other hand, since you live on our boards here's and idea!!!

LETS PLAY BALL EVERY YEAR HOME AND HOME FOOTBALL AND HOOPS AND KEEP ALL THAT MONEY YOU LIKE TO BRAG ABOUT PAYING IN A STATE THAT DESPERATELY NEEDS IT INSTEAD OF LETTING A BUCKEYE CON YOU IDIOTS INTO BELIVING A STANCE THAT WILL PROTECT HIS JOB TILL HE MAKES HIS NEXT JUMP IS GOOD FOR THE STATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here's an idea. As this board's self appointed moderator, why don't you get some new material. You're still the goofiest poster on Herd Nation.o_O

Lame is reported to be in the running to run FAU's already insignificant program further into the ground.

LOL? Please tell me just EXACTLY what is goofy about keeping much needed in-state revenue IN-STATE?

What is goofy about that idea?

Yes, sadly true but AAC and G5 Houston is the Big 12 Champ and to prove it , you all voted them down because they threaten your conference. Much like Marshall threatens Weeeest Vagina Ewe!

I don't think WVU is concerned with Marshall. Why should they be?

As much as I would like to say differently, we aren't giving them a reason to be concerned.

Oh they're concerned alright, just not for the reasons he may have implied.

For the past several years they haven't been consistently winning, but we were (regardless of quality of opponents, or lack thereof). They had to sit back and watch Holgs losing games he should have won and Marshall get attention for 10-win seasons against the bottom feeders of I-A.

I'd say WVu is thoroughly enjoying the season they are wrapping up soon and the one which ended for us right after we pounded that high school team as our season opener.
