The numbers for being a senator and his lifestyle and reported worth just don't add up.

So how did he do it. He didn't inherit wealth or own businesses or come from a line of inheritance or power brokers.

Do people even ask questions?

His son is a famous business man, working for large companies with business dealings in Ukraine, Russia, and China. That's how the 'big guy' made his wealth, by selling out the United States of America.

It will soon be under the microscope, once the new Congress goes into session in January.

I hope that answered your question.

Book deals and speaking engagements - ie money laundering schemes, pay to play games, selling access etc.

Same with "modern art."

I don't know about the book market today with digital everything, but in the past there was a lot of money to be made selling books by famous people. It's not like a publishing house was buying access, they were legit making money off the books. W's autobiography sold over two million copies in two months, $30 a copy, you do the math. Bill Clinton's autobiography was huge.

Hillary Clinton charged my moms company 50 grand for a 15 minute speech. It’s a great gif if you can get it
The employees should be pissed that the employer paid that kind of money for someone to give a speech.

They get massive advances up front and many don't ever come close to making money on paper. A lot of fuzzy math on these book deals. THey get money via book "tours" and often their campaigns or non profits buy back their own books in mass numbers, then turn around the "re sell" them.

There is some funny business going on. I don't think it's on the up and up.

I don't know a single person who read Clinton's book (I'm being serious) & I've been part of book clubs. Never, ever trust a political figure's book sales. Too many stories about campaigns & parties buying their own books for good PR.

Yes. Lots of books purchased essentially by the politicians themselves via PACS, campaigns, "non profits." It ain't amazon and books a million...

Spoken like a true "libertarian"...

"Macmillan Publishing has just bid $60 million dollars a multi-book contract to Joe and Jill Biden. Biden’s memoir is currently untitled and no release date was announced."

"Political memoirs have a habit of never earning back the massive advances that are given out. Bidens book deal is $5 million less than the one the Obamas signed from Penguin Random House in late 2016."

Remember, there are foreign rights in these book deals too...

To be fair, if Biden is writing an autobiography, works of fiction tend to sell better

I dunno, 2 million is a lot of books.

Generally, libertarians do support capitalism.

Well now you know one.

I find the early years of both Clinton and Reagan to be interesting. Reagan's "An American Life" is worth reading, for sure.

This is great. I remember being told how humbly average Mush Biden's net worth was. I believe they told us what a "modest public servant" he was. Bahahahahaha!! Anyone that's been in the govt as long as he has been has 10's& 10's of millions in offshore accounts.

One of Hillary's books was so terribly received they canceled the book tour.
