Perhaps a coaching change and after voluntary player departures the new staff ran off most of the rest!

Have a huge group either graduate or transfer, then carry a bunch of redshirts from last year, and then refuse to recruit the portal... 72 is a ridiculously high number of freshmen (redshirt and/or true), but there are several teams with 50-60 "new" players this year due to transfers and graduations... Im pretty sure Huff said during media day that we have 48 new guys on our team this year, being a mix of transfers and FR.
