If we blow the doors off of Appy how will you feel about Huff?

If we in in nail biter?

If we lost a knock down drag out game how does that affect your opinion?

If we get handled on national TV by Appy how will that affect your opinion?

Personally I am on the fence on his hires and I think this game is going to be much like last year's game. I am not sure the result.

He's three games into his first season as a head football coach, with a majority of the players being somebody else's recruits. One can argue about his hires, but I feel you need to see how the team progresses from throughout the season, and certainly from year 1 to year 2 to year 3, knowing he's recruiting players that fit his scheme.
In fairness, those guys that aren’t his players do represent some of the top rated classes in cusa over the past 5 years and includes several all conference players. Given that, I give him zero on that front to blame. He may get even better players, but the ones he has are good enough to win with.

Im more worried about his staff than his players.

I'm not sure when the next home game is, but I'm 100% concerned over the lack of hot dogs, and places to take a leak in the stadium. Huff can certainly get on the phone with Stewarts and see if they are interested in coming back and taking over the hot dog stands.

Honestly I didn't expect anything out of this season. We lost a lot of good players off last years team. I expected 7-8 wins with a few wtf moments. However by year 3 I fully expect Huff to be firing on all cylinders. I'm going to reserve complete judgment until then.

Can't make a call on a coach 3 games in. But so far I am not impressed with the defense coaching staff and the STC.

I thought App would be our toughest game and still believe that to be true. That said, I see a loss. I do hope we can play well and make a game of it.
How we progress during the season is what I am looking for. Playing consistent and hard each game will go a long way.

Just in my view, if the man can has us at 8-4 and we win a bowl game, I'll consider it a good year. Win the league and that's outstanding. Go 6-6, and i'll be scratching my head thinking Huff made some awful hires in his assistants. I already have suspicions about Cramsey, the DB coach and the ST coach.

Any decent fan base owes any new coach a very long leash. It is 99% certain that anyone who forms an opinion on Huff this year should be disregarded. (The 1% being something like a 2-10 failure of a season). Rotten superfandom born of unrealistic standards are what killed programs like Nebraska and Tennessee, and seems to be what is going on at Florida State.

Appy State is, obviously, a better team than ECU, is playing at home, and has reasons to be motivated. On the other hand, based on all the recruiting stats at the time, our players are simply better talent. This game is not a season maker or breaker, and certainly not a career anything.

I'll be a little concerned that something needs fixed if this happens. As Banker Rockdog was saying, we may not have Huff's players, but they're still talented enough to put up a good fight against even a team like Appy St.

What you're asking is so subjective you're not going to get a consistent answer:

Doc beat App State when they were a top 25 team and people ended up saying, "Well...App wasn't that good."
If App loses 3-4 games this season, same thing for Huff.

Huff could blow the doors off App and people would say, "Duuurrrrr East Carolina!!! Duuuurrrrr!!!"

A close win and then Huff drops 2 conference games..."Huff sucks, needs to be fired."

A blowout win and the rest of the games are close calls and wins, "Same old Doc ball..."

This game, I will say, is going to tell us a little bit more about Huff and how he can rebound after a loss that we shouldn't have had.

Just wait till the end of the season as MichiganHerd has said.

I wasn't looking for consistent answers. I was just interested in individual opinions for the sake of discussion.

The defensive line is playing extremely well. Much better than I thought we would be.
I agree with your take. I should have been more clear in my assessment. D-line-A, Lbers-B+ and cb's-d. I meant the evaluation of the overall units, not just one section of the special teams and defense unit.

You can't evaluate a coach week to week, especially a first-year head coach... The only way to determine if this season is successful will be at the end of the year, thus this week against App doesn't sway me one way or the other.

We could smoke App and then go 3-5 in the conference and finish 6-6 (which would be a poor year in most of our opinions)... We could lose badly this week and then run the table and win the CUSA title game and go 11-2 (a very good year).

Also we don't have a clear picture of the kind of coach he is yet... Against ECU, my opinion was the team was poorly coached in the fourth quarter due to the "all gas" philosophy and not using any clock when we had the chance. Also the special teams play was abysmal. Will we get that stuff fixed? Will our coaching staff be able to adapt to game situations better going forward? The only way to evaluate those things is with a wider body of work.

"We need to figure out a way to keep Coach Huff, otherwise he will leave for more money and a larger program."

If we win in nail biter?
"Coach Huff made some questionable decisions but a win is a win and he is sill better than Doc."

If we lost a knock down drag out game how does that affect your opinion?
"Coach Huff will improve. These aren't his players. We will keep getting better"

If we get handled on national TV by Appy how will that affect your opinion?
"Fire that dumb son of a B*tch! We were so stupid to fire Doc and hire this idiot!"

We have very little chance against App. This one could get out of hand and all that depends on how many times we turn it over.

I think 8-4 is a reasonable expectation. App and UAB are likely losses. FAU or WKU would be the other.

Oh I think we have the right guy here. I will say, last week was bad, but I expect him to learn from it. I still see us at 9-3 regular season. Talent wise we have enough to win now. It will take him another year I guess to change the culture so it is what it is. A conference title will make him a legend overnight

I think many would agree on a 9-3 record.

Then bi*ch and complain about how terrible he is when he...actually loses 3 games...

I would wait to see progress, in recruiting, coaching, wins, quality of how they play. He is coaching players he inherited, but they were not a bad team to start with. Based on what I have heard from him on film and in person, I do think we at least are starting with an amazing "prospect" as a head coach. Or maybe a "first year starter as a head coach." Based on potential, he could go down as the steal of the century, but as I told one recent Herd player, "If if's and but's were candy and nuts..." You old guys know the rest.
