In the last 8 years here is how we measure up against some of our G5 peers. There is no way MH will cut Doc loose even if he keeps BL as OC.

Boise 82-21
Toledo 71-32
Houston 68-34
UCF 64-38
S. FL 50-48
WKU 61-41
Ohio 64-40
W Mich 53-48
Col St 49-52
S. Miss 48- 54
Fresno St 50-51

Marshall 60-42

I am aware there have been some coaching changes at some of these schools. It shows me that MH will evaluate us by stats like this. We are still in the top portion among our peers. I am not saying things are good I am just saying that outside of Boise and Toledo no other school has really separated themselves in the past 8 years. These schools are the perennial leaders of the MAC, MWC,C-USA and American. So before you light me up I am all for having high expectations and winning conference championships . I am just saying that there seems to be plenty of parity right now. My hope is we can get our act together and rise back up to the top of the G5 pile where Boise and Toledo now are and we once where.

Our Peers? We should want to be at the top of that list. near Boise.

60-42 is unacceptable. Especially with our schedules ranking very low and the conference is lighter now and the OOC schedules are reduced for Doc. Also, there should be a measurement for conference championships. One in 8 years is unacceptable as well.

60-42 would be acceptable, if the herd was playing in the Pac 12, but being in the conference of alphabet soup teams, it's a damn shame.
Correct. That is the point. They lightened the load for Doc. There are also some flat outembarrassing losses.

Notice you didn't list San Diego State. You will be shocked when you see their record for the last 8 years.
Yeh I overlooked them Fever. You are right they are at the top with Toledo and Boise State. 73 wins is impressive

I think they will be going to a bowl game for the 9th straight season and had 6 straight seasons of 10 wins

Since conference championships apparently matter so much...

Measuring the last 8 years (thats since 2009).

Boise 4 (1 WAC outright, 1 shared) 2 MWC (TCU, Utah, and BYU were nightmares for BSU as the latter 3 dominated)
Toledo-0
UH- 1 AAC
UCF- 3 (2 AAC, 1 CUSA)
USF-1 (AAC)
WKU- 2 (CUSA)
Ohio- 0 (at one time, like 3 straight trips to the big one, blew the lead in at least one and got destroyed in another)
WMU-1 (MAC)
CSU-0
USM- 1 (CUSA)
SDSU-3 (MWC)
Fresno- 2 (Not sure on this)
Marshall- 1 (CUSA)

Interestingly, since Boise is the measuring stick for the G5, it took the departure of BYU, TCU, and Utah to allow them to win the MWC...but I bet their fans don't complain or even care about other team records, or that their conference is watered down...I'm sure they were excited to be able to win.

UCF is about the most consistent since in CUSA 1.0, they did well and got one when it was at its peak and got 2 when they joined a "step up" conference in the AAC.

SDSU could be on the verge of really surpassing everyone if they win this weekend.

*edit, forgot they didn't make the MWC game, its Fresno vs BSU. My mistake.

Don't think you're helping your point much here.

Hell yeah I'd be happy if we had won 4 times as many conference championships and 37% more games over the last 8 years, like Boise.

Well, it took the depature of 3 teams to allow that to happen.
They are also, as I had said, the measuring stick of the G5, hence they are going to be one of the better teams in the G5.

The same could be said for us on our title. It was after UCF, Memphis, Tulsa, SMU and ECU left.

How long was TCU, BYU, and Utah was in the MW with Boise?
Heh, maybe 2 years. I was off on that because I was unaware of how late Boise joined the MWC. I thought they had been in it much longer.

I'm gonna regret this because its theoretical...but their departures made the MWC considerably easier for Boise.
I ask however, can one count a shared conference title? MWC went to a title game in 2013. If not counting, Boise won 3, not 4.
However, seeing the dates listed, Fresno and San Diego State are basically regulars in the conference game.
Boise would be in it for just the 2nd time since its inception...already winning it once since 2013.
Wait, didn't we make it to ours, twice, winning it once?

We still would have been conference champions in 2014. Tulsa, SMU, and ECU have all been mediocre since leaving and the only competition would have been UCF and Memphis of those schools that left.

As of today, appy state is a better program than marshall.
Not really. They are 35-14 and been a good Sun Belt team since moving up in 2014, but we are 33-18 in the same period and have a better all-around program in terms of infrastructure and financial support.

You have no idea if that is true or not. Yeah, I would have liked our chances but we have no idea if that would have happened.

During all those rounds of realignment, Boise was content to stay put and pound the hapless teams that make up the WAC, and parlay that into national attention. I'd believe they'd still be there if the writing wasn't on the wall that the conference was doomed to dissolve.

.

I think WKU could have given UCF some problems.
LT would have done the same to Memphis out west if they went to the west and east retained UCF.
Not saying they would have won but no cakewalk either.

So you admit they have a better record during that time. They average 5000 more fans per game (87% of their capacity) while Marshall was barely over 50% capacity this year. App State's stadium is nicer. Marshall has a newer, nicer indoor, but App State had one for many years prior to Marshall.

When it comes to other facilities (basketball, baseball), App State wins handily.

UCF was at home and you can't say we wouldn't have beat them when we were ranked higher and were far superior in almost all statistical categories. FYI, our team was far superior to Boise St as well. We just played a crap game against WKU and were crucified by ESPN for it.
