How many spots are available ? Saw where he is after a 4 star WR. Lets see what he can do in the next 3 weeks or so.

Just thinking about our facilities: How nice is it to have the IPF? Has to be a plus for a new HC wanting to show off the practice area to prospective recruits.

do you think he can pull in some big time players this class with time so short to recruit
Hard to tell. A few could be potential non qualifiers but a lot of schools are giving out As like candy this year so most kids should be qualifiers. Devonte Ross was 100% going to be a NQ until he somehow had three consecutive semesters of GPAs above 4.0 and UK decided he was a take.

It's almost like you can google the answers on your smartphone and type them in to your computer on "virtual tests"... Not that any of the children in my house would do such a thing. Lol

We gotta get Huff a full sized recruiting class as much as we can. Strike while the hype train is hot.

With the early signing day it is hard to get kids at this time of year. I would suspect we will see a few more from the portal. His biggest challenge will be to evaluate and see which guys want to stick around or should stick around for the extra year. That's why most schools are now so focused on the 2022 class. To me, that is where his recruiting efforts can start to pay off. I am sure he is aware of a lot of kids that are just below the Alabama level, and those are the ones where he'll start. Ones where he had already started building a relationship over the past two years. I also think it is important for a coach to evaluate based on the physical requirements of his style of play. And that takes into account the type of strength and conditioning you want. For example, do you want longer, tall, basketball type of frames for outside linebackers that you can add weight to, and what type of interior lineman do you want? How will you use TEs? Will you play a 3 or 4 man DL front? Anyway, I love his approach and it will be interesting to see how "tough" he will be, and how successful he will be as players go all in on being a champion, or go bye.

Chris, your point about Ross causes me to think that we may not get our normal group of non-qualifiers this year. That means the portal becomes the primary source of new players for the program. We may not be able to afford 105 players on the roster, but maybe we can handle in the low 90's. If Huff can just get 4-5 more keepers in the next few weeks, we will be in good shape for Spring Ball and Fall Camp. A lot will depend on how many seniors decide to play another year. Should know that pretty soon.

The portal this year will have hundreds of players and more added each day. Some will find out they are going to either stay down or be pushed down the depth chart. Others had actually opted-out, opted in before last season but get another year or didn't go anywhere last year. Some will go through spring ball one place, then transfer out after that. A few will be graduating and then going into the portal late spring/ early summer. A few move up (based on ranking of schools) but a lot will move down. And I assume that a lot will find they don't have anywhere to go. Not sure what the Herd will need but I know there will be a lot to evaluate and choose from, even at positions like looking for a backup QB with experience.

I don’t know about this class but I do know for a fact that a player from Oscar smith in Virginia had an Alabama offer then as soon as huff was hired had one from Marshall. Even if he gets one or two of those kids to come it would help

You never sign a player you don’t recruit
I feel like our last two coaches definitely signed some kids sight unseen. If a kid you sign shows up on campus and then you find out his arm is a wet noodle, you didn't do your homework. That happened to Holliday a couple times.

HBs at mid-majors have little chance to elevate themselves above the 5th round. He could have a monster year next year and still get drafted around the same place, only after taking 300+ tackles.

I miss him with all of my heart {CUE CELINE DION} and will miss watching him run for the rest of my days, but he made the right call.
