Huggins is a Giant Douche

He does not drink anymore and he is not. a POS
Gee whiz he is a HOF coach and his fan base love him. He is a dedicated west Virginian. Would already have a ring if his best player didn't break his leg right before the tourney. This belief that as a herd fan you have to hate Huggins is red neck as you can get.

His priority is to advocate for his team/program. When the Herd was struggling mightily there were three big detriments to the neutral site game: loss of revenue (ie we’d makr more money staying at home), playing against a low RPI team, and having what I perceive as a higher than typical chance of losing to this team (emotions, rivalry, neutral site) which will kill your RPI.

Obviously, this is debatable but those were the main talking points. His priority is not to the state, it’s to his own team only.

I personally at the time didn’t find it unreasonable....but this Herd team is legit (and will be next year too) and I hope and think Dan’s formula is/will work...so you can remove that super low RPI assumption...so now I think a lot of those talking points/assumptions need re evaluated.

I wouldn’t blame Marshall for wanting nothing to do with it anymore, either though.

As for Huggs...of course he’s an a**. But I like him. Back when the Herd was in search of a coach I was on this board and the vast majority were begging to get him. My perception of him prior to WVU was that he was a recruiter-first guy (often of shady athletes) like a b-list Calipari ...

In reality his recruiting really isn’t great, at least not at WVU. We’ve had some bad actors, but his grad success rate and NCAA metrics for that have been very very good (nothing like what was seen at UC). He’s obviously a great motivator (his teams consistently play hard), an underrated Xs and Os guy (though offensive sets/droughts are his Achilles heel), and his players typically buy in.

My position on this game is the same. Either play a home and home in both sports, rotating between the two schools every other year or forget about it. I am aware they are in a P5 conference and we are in a G5 conference. They don't need us and we don"t need them. So unless both sides can have a equal chance then lets move on. If we can play Purdue, NC State and others a 1-1 in football we don't need to kiss anyones bottom up in Morgantown for the chance to play them.

I hear some gagging

Well Barkley had a name for those fans. Marshall has a pocket of re Tards that have this idiotic belief to be a true herd fan is to hate everybody else. Kinda of a nose in the air group of people. Fans from other teams hang out with the good old boys who love football without even thinking about Marshall The University and how they have superior minds. Why Harvard is not as good as Marshall in academics. Does this group correct other fans on proper speech.lol you all know I'm half kidding. Stop the Hate. Be thrilled over Marshall and them with a shot at wv to advance to the sweet 16. We are going to at least the final 8. Wv will not beat the herd. Gonna be a blast watching the herd advance. Rather meet wv in the title game.

Marshall didn’t have enough cash to hire him.

no Kayo M. shut the door on that when he was begging for a job because no one would hire him because he was a drunk with a dui and puke down the side of his care. he had some Charleston lawyers and $$ lobbying for him. kayo (like the fool he is) publicly said we have a coach!! which was that suckhole Ron Jirsa. Huggy was untouchable and then KState hired him...presto bango he's good to go...all forgiven wvu hires his fat drunk obnoxious ass.

He left Cincy in August of 2005 and was hired by KSU in the spring of 2006. That doesn't sound untouchable lol.

I realize that history is not the strong suit around here, but here are the facts.

Huggins was, and remains, a serious alcoholic and degenerate gambler. At the time Indiana had casinos but Ohio did not. He had been pulled over 100s of times and let off by fanboy cops. Finally he ran into one of those straight arrow types who ran him in. Plenty of pictures and videos of him, covered in vomit and obviously intoxicated past reason.

Cincinnati had to fire him. Shamed into by Ohio politicians. Huggins was, due to his degenerate gambling, pretty close to flat broke. He was looking hard for any job. A group of inside politics richy riches, including our witless current governor, were trying to get him at MU. Huggins is not stupid and knew what KO was and demanded written assurances about the program budget. Major issue was a huge upgrade to travel, he wanted to fly to every game more than 90 minutes away and wanted 100s of hours of unquestioned use of a private jet (supposedly for recruiting, but it was to be 100% unsupervised and I'm pretty sure LAS was the default destination). KO would not, or could not, come up with the $$. Kansas State, not exactly the garden spot of the universe, (but a state with casinos) did.

WVU looked set, with Belein until he moved up to Michigan and Huggy left KSU high and dry after only one year.

It says something about WVU that both of its coaches have serious alcohol problems (Huggy is apparently the kind of drunk who just falls to sleep, while Holgerson is one of those ass*** mean drunks who wants to fight everybody) and its president is a racist and religious bigot. It is what it is. MU is not perfect and there were plenty of people around here at the time who would have wanted him. But there are plenty of schools, even today, who would not hire any of the three "faces" of WVU.

Not saying all of what he wrote is true. But, some of its. Huggins does have a problem. He did sniff around Huntington, not sure what to extent. Holgerson has had issues as well. Pretty well documented. Quite a cast a characters of the major sports programs there.

He was a coach looking for a job. But it's funny how he was untouchable for a whole 7 months according to a poster. I'm glad he came back home to WVU.

What you wrote is a lie. I thought you changed on your return to the board. You are neither a Marshall fan or a graduate of the university. You are though a bullshitter and agitating coward that makes claims on people that you would run from if met in person. Personally, I think you are in the same group as a guy that called himself the Greenhouse Effect. He was banned from the board. You should be as well. I think you are a WVU fan that takes up space on a board to stir up shit. You must be Greenhouses bitch. And no you are not a Marshall graduate...we are better educated and have more class.

Didn't know Huggins had Ohio roots. Well that says it all doesn't it? No wonder he got a DUI he can't drive!

Holgerson and Huggins don't have issues? OK>>>>>

Source for the "100s" of times he was let go by the cops?

And how was he flat broke considering he accepted a $3 million payout from Cincy when he was let go? And why on earth do you think any salary Marshall could pay would even touch that?

And why are you given access to the internet without adult supervision?

for the record he is NOT a HOF coach (yet - has HOF "credentials"?) and I totally agree he is "RED NECK" as you can get!

I still think he is a drunk POS.

Be proud, Herd fans, you can claim Sam as one of your own.

Huggins has better players as well good coach no doubt. Not sure he schooled anyone

Didn't know Huggins had Ohio roots. Well that says it all doesn't it? No wonder he got a DUI he can't drive!

Charlie Huggins, his dad, was one of the great high school bb coaches in Ohio sports history. Gnadenhutton Indian Valley South HS.

I just assumed you knew when basketball season starts and that most coaches move directly on to other jobs.
