Huggins is a Giant Douche

Not saying all of what he wrote is true. But, some of its. Huggins does have a problem. He did sniff around Huntington, not sure what to extent. Holgerson has had issues as well. Pretty well documented. Quite a cast a characters of the major sports programs there.

Well, herdman, it is called the "FLAGSHIT" institution for a reason!!

Ok. Question still valid. Are there many coaching vacancies in August? Ya'll hate Huggy but he's a hell of a basketball coach. That has been proven. Hate away.
no, but you are talking about a HOF coach....so no one on hot seat in August? I mean coaches are canned all the time and this HOF coach is out there? no one makes a move because of his baggage. HIs attorney friends shopped him to Marshall at that time begging and offering $$ and even little old MU with a bad head coach (and AD for that matter) told them to beat it.

You may not realize it, but many institutions don't like having drunks as the face of the Institution like wvu does.. in Chuggy and Murdock and I guess Kstate could tolerate a little puke on a car door if they win.

So you think schools go around firing and hiring coaches in August? 3 months from the start of the season? Plus Huggs just got $3M buyout. I'm sure he was desperate.

Good things Huggs didn't hire Duhon as an assistant. Be an all out party.

Let go of the hate.

Cincy did. take the blinders off.

How did he school Danny? He had a better roster of players. We were outmanned. I didn't say Huggins couldn't coach. He can coach for sure. But, he should have won that game.
Huggs made huge adjustment on the press. That quickly changed the flow of the game. What changes did Dan make?

Reactions: Herd Fever
I realize that history is not the strong suit around here, but here are the facts.

Huggins was, and remains, a serious alcoholic and degenerate gambler. At the time Indiana had casinos but Ohio did not. He had been pulled over 100s of times and let off by fanboy cops. Finally he ran into one of those straight arrow types who ran him in. Plenty of pictures and videos of him, covered in vomit and obviously intoxicated past reason.

Cincinnati had to fire him. Shamed into by Ohio politicians. Huggins was, due to his degenerate gambling, pretty close to flat broke. He was looking hard for any job. A group of inside politics richy riches, including our witless current governor, were trying to get him at MU. Huggins is not stupid and knew what KO was and demanded written assurances about the program budget. Major issue was a huge upgrade to travel, he wanted to fly to every game more than 90 minutes away and wanted 100s of hours of unquestioned use of a private jet (supposedly for recruiting, but it was to be 100% unsupervised and I'm pretty sure LAS was the default destination). KO would not, or could not, come up with the $$. Kansas State, not exactly the garden spot of the universe, (but a state with casinos) did.

WVU looked set, with Belein until he moved up to Michigan and Huggy left KSU high and dry after only one year.

It says something about WVU that both of its coaches have serious alcohol problems (Huggy is apparently the kind of drunk who just falls to sleep, while Holgerson is one of those ass*** mean drunks who wants to fight everybody) and its president is a racist and religious bigot. It is what it is. MU is not perfect and there were plenty of people around here at the time who would have wanted him. But there are plenty of schools, even today, who would not hire any of the three "faces" of WVU.

Cool story.

I think the point is, there’s a reason why he was canned when he got canned and there’s a reason why a coach who recruits “The Big Apple” went to “The Little Apple” in Manhattan, KS to coach basketball. And look what that program has done since he got there?! He left them Frank Martin and now they’re in the Sweet 16, so this post isn’t anti-Huggins. That program turned around when he stepped through the door.

But Duke isn’t firing Coach K in August. Villanova isn’t running Jay Wright out in August either. Michigan won’t be forcing Beilein to resign in August. Kansas won’t be paying Bill Self $3 million in August to get lost. Virginia isn’t letting Tony Bennett walk out the door in August. And if they did, 300+ schools would be lining up to fire their coach before the season started and hire one of them. And if they made it through a season of basketball without being hired, they wouldn’t be at Manhattan, KS the next season.

He and his team walked out the door in March. ;)

Huggins will be in the HOF. He is one of the better coaches out there and very well could win an NCAA championship at some point. Although probably not this year as WVU stands a chance at facing Kansas (if WVU makes it that far) in the final 4 and WVU can't beat Kansas. Still Huggins is a very good coach. I was one of those fans that wanted Marshall to hire him when he expressed interest in the job before he went to K-State.
