What would the advantages be of dropping back down to I-AA, at least for a few years while we get our athletic department in order? I think playing for National Championships at the I-AA would be more exciting and better publicity than staying in C-USA (if we get left behind). Playing in the AA tournament would likely get us more ESPN exposure than staying in USA. I would imagine we would also save significant money on the football team that could be invested in basketball and soccer.

While I certainly hope we are able to jump up to the SunBelt or MAC, but I am starting to fear that we will get left behind. If we do get left behind, I tend to think moving to AA would be better overall for the athletic department (for all sports) than staying in USA.

We are one of the biggest swinging dicks left in the room of the cusa and sunbelt deal. we are not getting left behind. We might **** it up, but we are not getting left behind.

It is now called FCS. There is no 1-AA. Although I admittedly still call it that.

@i am herdman is correct, Marshall is a big swinging dick. Which is why the rumors we are attempting to drag some programs with us is likely true, we have the brand to do that.

And screw basketball. What has DD done to deserve sinking football, which pays the bills, for his benefit? Nothing but one short period of hot play.

Soccer will be fine. I would not be shocked to see soccer end up in the ACC. They could take the top 4 C-USA programs and build a super conference.

Why do people always seems to want Marshall to stay in small meaningless conference or in some cases drop/lower to a overall lesser conference... keep living in the 90’s and dreaming, I personally wish we would win some darn conference titles and move up to a AAC or ACC or Big12 or whatever new conference they can create. I wanna see a upper deck added at Joan Edwards.. i want to have a 8 win season and they actually take us seriously... why go backwards, that’s stupider!

It looks like most writers will now judge the SunBelt as the best of the non-P5 leagues, whatever that group will be called. CUSA looks like it may have to add several I-AA schools, and the AAC is now much weaker than before. Adding FAU and UTSA don't match the schools that left, and the other ex-CUSA ones pull the perceived quality down more. At least what should be the SB-East may be the best division.

Good post but one correction. The ACC is, and has been for decades, the top college soccer conference. Men’s and women’s.
