I truly believe we're witnessing the watershed moment of Woke Self-Cancellation, which I really hope continues to be a thing; if for nothing else, it's entertaining.

Yup, they think the Woke army will spark a new interest in them and their tired ass music if they virtue signal hard enough.

But outside of stragglers like Greed, the bulk of the woke crowd are too young to get into their music, so I see this as a huge backfire.

The hottest area of investment in the music business is old songs—with investment firms getting into bidding wars to buy publishing catalogs from aging rock and pop stars.

The song catalogs in most demand are by musicians in their 70s or 80s (Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Bruce Springsteen, etc.)—if not already dead (David Bowie, James Brown, etc.).

Yes.

I almost invested in this. Unfortunately I wasn’t willing to lie to meet a hurdle into the fund (bullshit Qualified Purchaser rules limit regular investors to “protect” them and limit many private equity deals). This fund has done very well.

Young as I understand it already cashed in on his catalogue. Of course he won’t be hurt by lack of Spotify plays, he already sold his rights.
