Does anyone know what the first series of tie-breakers are for a three-way tie for first? I assume since no one is talking about it that it wouldn't favor us?

Tie Breaker rule as follows (when 2 or more teams are tied). Haven't analyzed it much, but it appears that FIU would be the first to fall from the tie-breaker rules, followed by the Herd, thus giving the conference to MTSU. If FIU happens to beat Marshall, then they will own the head to head tie breaker with MTSU, as I believe they beat them earlier in the season.

Three or more-team procedure
(Once the tie has been reduced to two teams, go to the two-team tie-breaker format.)

  1. Highest regular season winning percentage based on overall CUSA play.
  2. If tied, head to head between tied teams.
  3. If still tied, highest winning percentage within division.
  4. If still tied, compare records against divisional opponents in descending order of finish.
  5. If still tied, compare records with common cross-divisional opponents.
  6. If still tied, compare records against cross-divisional opponents in descending order of finish.
  7. If still tied, team with highest CFP ranking.
  8. If still tied, the representative will be the team that has not participated in the championship game most recently.
  9. If at any point the tie is broken in a multiple team tie, the remaining teams will begin the process again at #2.

Wow, that's really confusing. So if this scenario plays out, MTSU beat Marshall, Marshall beats FIU, FIU beats MTSU. That would take the tie breaker down to at least #6, if I'm reading that correctly. Beyond that, it looks like another screw job scenario for someone.

EDIT:
#4 would drop FIU because their 2 losses would be in the East. Then it would go back to head-to-head with MTSU. So we basically have zero chance.

I believe that's how I viewed it, but again, I didn't put a bunch of effort into analyzing it. On the positive side, when the Herd goes down to play Florida International, all 8,347 MTSU fans will be cheering on the Herd.

Our meltdown in the 2nd half at home against MTSU cost us the East. The USM loss wouldn’t have hurt us.
