Incomplete Pass

Just altering course a bit. I'm curious to know what you thought about that last OSU possession. 47(?) ticks left, you still have a TO in your back pocket. Your in the red zone. You have moved the ball with surprising ease, using the RB out of the back field on short passes to march like 60 yards. Why do you go for the whole enchilada on that play that resulted in the interception? And it's not like it was 4th down. AND...……….if this was Marshall in the same situation (of course not the national semi-finals of the CFP, but let's say...……...Charlotte), where would the blame be placed? Coaching staff or QB?

I never thought it was a catch. The problem with replay is if you slow it down long enough it can look like he had the ball forever. In real time it looks like he only had it for a fraction of a second and didnt complete the catch. The beginning of this video shows the play in real time.

I though it was a fumble. He actually brought the football down to his waist while he had control. That should be your "Football" move.

He never had possession long enough. Correct call.

On last OSU pass, QB and receiver misread each other.

He took three steps and brought the ball from his upper numbers to his waist. He has enough control to do that, it was only after the ball was hit when he lost all control. Not a Buckeye fan, but they were shafted.

By this definition, it seems to me the call was correct....

This is what constitutes a catch, according to the NCAA:
To catch a ball means that a player:

Secures control of a live ball in flight before the ball touches the ground, and touches the ground in bounds with any part of his body, and then maintains control of the ball long enough to enable him to perform an act common to the game, i.e., long enough to pitch or hand the ball, advance it, avoid or ward off an opponent, etc.

While watching it live I said "incomplete" to myself when it hit the ground. Still feel that way after the slow motion. He wasn't taking steps, he was being pushed along by the defender while he was trying to secure the ball. I don't believe he ever had a firm grasp on the ball.

Supposedly, they are to review the play in real time and not to slow it down.

That was the issue from the analysis I heard the night of the game. The WR was stepping sideways and not forward. Also, as Banker pointed out, the WR was also being pushed sideways.

Bottom line, correct call, sourpuss tOSU fans.

it doesn't say you have to advance it, it says long enough to do that or a few other things. using your logic, anyone catching a ball running laterally could cross from hash mark to hash mark running with the ball, then get hit and drop ball, no fumble. just silly.

my aren't you the clever one. I do like the Hillary reference. I didn't care who won the game as I thought they both provided a good opponent for LSU. I don't care who wins the title, I wanted LSU to roll OU, they did and that's the only game of the playoff where I had a preference.
