But seriously the jockey for Country House is the jockey of the race for me. Unbelievable great job with bringing him in from the outside. #Derby145

The owner of Country House was right. That's an easy call in a $10k weekday race. He obviously impeded War of Will in the turn.

And as I said to you on Facebook, the event matters.

Hell, those weekday races are often rigged lol. A "hot tip" has nothing to do with how good a horse is

@wvkeeper(HN) , The Man speaks about how the event matters:

One dissenting voice on the backstretch was another Hall of Famer trainer, five-time Derby winner Bob Baffert. During the race, Baffert stood in the saddling paddock, where he watched American Pharoah win the 2015 Derby and near the small room where he watched Justify win it a year ago. Baffert suggested that the Derby is just a different race from all others, and that everyday rules should not always apply. “No one ever calls an objection in the Derby,” Baffert told me Sunday afternoon, by text. “It’s always a roughly run race. Twenty-horse field. I have been wiped out numerous times, but that is the Derby. I can see by the book why they did it. But sometimes you’ve got to take your ass-kickings with dignity.”

I guess I fall on the other side. Bullshit event matters either you follow the rules at all events or you don’t participate.

There are as many “unwritten rules” as there are “rules” in sports. It’s a part of tradition of certain sports and events. That’s what makes it worth watching.

Like Baffert said. Take your ass-kicking and come back next time.

He basically admitted that it would have been called in any other race. I think it’s a crap way to win but they broke the rules and got called out

That's why I said "unwritten rules in certain sports/events", "tradition".

And they didn't so much as get "called out" as someone "cried out"... like a bitch.

Just like the conservatives on this board.

Unwritten rules don’t mean anything. It’s like hitting a bank shot in a game of horse, without calling it, then saying the other player also has to bank it in.

Unwritten rules don’t mean anything.

Tell that to Baffert.

To the best of my knowledge, there are no "unwritten rules" in the game of horse. So your analogy doesn't really hold up IMO. We will just have to agree to disagree. Unwritten rules are too many to count in any real sport or contest. And yes......they mean a lot.

It's about honor....something that is lacking in today's world. Call it a "gentlemen's agreement" if that sounds better. It's always been assumed the Derby is won on the track, and it's probable it will be a hard, banging race. There's probably a foul every year in the first 1/8 mile.

Im not saying I agree with it. I think its a bullshit way to win, with that said if a rule was broken and it was reported then they had no choice to dq. It shouldnt matter if it was the kentucky derby or the friday night dog race.

And that's not the point being argued. The point is it's considered chickenshit in the Derby to protest the finish. And that's the unwritten rule.
