Is anyone here from Pt. Pleasant or attend Point Pleasant High School?

I'm not from there, but used to have family in Wahama. Many years back, I actually posed the same question, and found out the real team name is Black Knights, and that Big Blacks is simply a nickname of the original. Not sure if true, but I can remember being told that. To this day, I've never heard or seen them called Black Knights.

Most awkward moment in my life was having to sing my school fight song to my new College teammates ... "say whaaaat ...."

Black Knights is the mascot - Big Blacks is the nickname. I still have my "Big Black Track" shirt.

Graduated in 1984. The original mascot was the "Big Black Knights". That is why you see a Knight symbol on a lot of their stuff. The name just got shortened over the years. Organizations like the band go by the Black Knight Marching Band.

Back in the day everybody was "Big [Color]," even Marshall was the "Big Green."

Hey, if a bunch of little white dudes want to run around calling themselves the Big Blacks, I got not problem with it. No worse than Florida-Georgia Line doing that rap-country trash.

So.... how does that fight song go?

Fight song is to the Mountaineers fight song tune.

And no, Point did not start as Black Knights. Started as Big Blacks because they had black uniforms and supposedly some of the team members were some pretty big boys compared to the other team they were playing at the time. The band took the moniker of Black Knights much, much later. Tried to be politically correct in the 80s and push the Black Knights, but the sport teams' members and athletes did not like taking the band nickname. Still a lot of folks don't like Black Knights.

Big Reds from Parkersburg was the same type of origin, but they later started with a chief in a war bonnet.

And parkersburg still embraces the Big Red Indian. Fortunately they don’t have a bunch of whiny b*tch liberals crying about something that is not offensive to begin with. They often have horses and the Indian that enters the field pregame. It’s actually neat thing to see team and school pride that doesn’t succumb to politically correct crybabies.
