Is Biden still in office?

Must be terrible for you magats to observe a holiday where people celebrate the freeing of a people.

Another banking holiday. A pure celebration of wealthy democrat WallST/financiers taking time for their Hampton's summer parties. Life is good.

It celebrates the emancipation of enslaved people. I think it's a great holiday.

Also, are any holidays "necessary?" We could live without any of them, couldn't we?
Well, of course. Would you be surprised if Pride Day becomes a Nat'l Holiday? How about Transition Day? Give the progressives time. Where does it stop.

I wouldn't equate emancipation of enslaved people to being gay or attempting to change genders.

I would be more apt to equate it to Independence Day. It's a very big deal.

Homosexuality and trying to change genders by cutting healthy parts of your body off, to no avail, are not natural.

Being free is definitely natural and everyone should get to enjoy it.

Just another excuse to give govt workers a day off. It is not even the day the slaves were actually freed.

And Christmas wasn't the day Christ was born. Just another excuse?

Juneteenth, also known as Emancipation Day or Juneteenth Independence Day, is a holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. It is celebrated annually on June 19th, marking the day in 1865 when enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, were informed of their freedom by Union General Gordon Granger, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

We need to give Hispanics a holiday and give the government another day off. There are more hispanics in America.

Then, we need to give even more holidays and shut down things. Kwanza, made up. Make it fed day.

Juneteenth is just stupid. Nobody ever celebrated Juneteenth day. Hell, how many ever heard of it? Frankly, it is just another way to divide and show how fat and bloated the govt is.

Again, enslaved people getting their freedom is a pretty big deal to me.

Juneteenth? Better late than never. The name is kind of weird, but what it represents, is freedom.

I mean, when American people earned their freedom, it was a pretty big deal, no?

Businesses can choose to be open or closed for any holiday. They can choose to pay or not pay employees for a holiday. They have that freedom.

We should all celebrate the freedom of enslaved people. You don't have to. It's your right.

I think it's a great holiday.

Here is an article on just the cost (2011) to the federal government and not including state, local and private employers. The cost is in the billions.

Who remembers this holiday?

Juneteenth was just political pandering by the Left. The next time the Left gets in power we'll probably get Kwanzaa as a national holiday.

Which businesses were closed?

Mainly it was federal, state and local government offices including the USPS.

On the business side it was primarily financial institutions and the federal reserve.

"Branches of Bank of America, Wells Fargo, PNC, Truist, CitiBank, JPMorgan Chase and Capital One will be closed on the holiday, the companies confirmed to USA TODAY. Capital One Cafes will remain open."

I would say it cost several billion dollars to these government agencies. Just the federal employee cost was recently estimated to be $4B.

There are also hidden costs to businesses. With the federal reserve and banks being closed on a Thursday Thursday and Friday payroll processing needed to be expedited with additional costs including overtime. This holiday, or any, doesn't come without costs to businesses.

Meanwhile the silence is deafening....

"An estimated 50 million people were living in modern slavery on any given day in 2021. This is nearly one in every 150 people in the world. Modern slavery is hidden in plain sight and is deeply intertwined with life in every corner of the world."

So, pretty much none?

So what you're saying this is pretty much a feel-good politically motivated action to give federal, state and local government employees another day off with pay and to pander to a voting bloc that is starting to move away from democrat plantation to commemorate something that hasn't been directly celebrated for 160 years? You'd be correct for a change.

Look at the idiots^^^^^^^ freaking out about a paid holiday.

$818 million payout for 2 million employees = average of $409 each employee

We just paid $40 million for a parade for 1 (one) Magat In Chief.
