JC Online: Purdue football at Marshall: Early odds

I've been saying 14 sounded about right.

This is a team that lost at home by 21 to CMU last year. 7 of their 9 losses were by 14 or more.

Since they are a P5 school, we ought to shoot up to about or a least 14th in the committee's first poll if we beat them... Might crack the Top 10 if we win by three touchdowns!

This is probably a good time to remind everyone that 'The Poll' is an exclusive club for P5 members only. Sure, they'll provide a charity ranking around #23 or so at some point in the season, but in the end, the charity gift will go to whom the committee decides is worthy of it, while biting their lip when doing so. This is similar to the rank and file members of The Masters reacted when they were forced to allow women and folks of color amongst their ranks. They did so grudgingly.

When you see an ellipsis (...) in anything I write, you know I'm teasing in a joking, facetious way, with tongue planted firmly in cheek!

We also have to hope Purdue upsets some teams to bolster our resume.

If we pick up where we left off last season and win by 35+ points beating everyone into the first week, we will likely get into the top 25.

Why? They suck. I'd be shocked at anything less than 10-14.
You're correct they do suck. However I always thought that the point of Vegas odds is to get people to bet evenly (I'm not a gambler so I very well could be wrong). A lot of our coverage last year was centered around Cato who is now gone. That and the fact that they are a P5 team would make me think that even though they are bad they would get a little more respect. With those two things combined I would think Vegas would make the line closer in order to get bets. I think we're capable as a team of beating Purdue like the giant drum their marching band has.

Here is Purdue's 2015 Schedule...

9/6/15 @ Marshall... Loss
9/12/15 vs. Indiana State...Win
9/19/15 vs Virginia Tech...Loss
9/26/15 vs. Bowling Green...Win
10/3/15 @ Michigan State...Loss
10/10/15 vs. Minnesota...50/50 at best
10/17/15 @ Wisconsin...Loss
10/31/15 vs. Nebraska...Loss
11/7/15 vs. Illinois...another 50/50
11/14/15 @ Northwestern....Winnable
11/21/15 @ Iowa...Loss
11/28/15 vs. Indiana...50/50

So we are looking at a potential below .500 record which could swing to like 3-9 in a worst case. Really hoping they have some wins up their sleeves and can pull some upsets later on in their conference schedule.
