There is no "Jefferson, IN" that I am aware of. You probably mean Jeffersonville. No I don't live there, but I live near there. It's part of the Louisville metro area. Jeffersonville is an interesting city, honestly. It is a very up and coming place economically. The part where strung out people live is actually quite small, and they will soon be pushed out by rising property values. The north side of the city has a new 6000 acre industrial park that has brought about 10k new jobs, and it is still growing; the next big announcement there will be about a 2k jobs, high paying union plant, according to my politician friends, and there is some serious interest in high tech and corporate headquarter projects as well. You can buy a $40k house in Jeffersonville, you can also buy a million dollar home there. I'm actually thinking about buying a home there, the decision is if I invest in the now very trendy and increasingly gentrified downtown or something near the mega industrial park. Either way I think I win. It is also home to the largest inland shipbuilder in the USA, it's not a dying drug town by any means. Southern Indiana is booming, and has been for a few years.
Crime is not bad on this side of the river, as long as you are not involved in the drug trade. This part of Indiana has a VERY high rate of conceal carry permit holders, people will shoot your ass. And the police in Floyd County (my county) and Clark County (that's where Jeffersonville is) will beat your ass. Honestly, crime isn't bad in Louisville as long as you stay out of the ghetto.
It's a great show to watch when there's no good sports to watch on a Saturday night. Raoul, we've been looking for great small towns to retire to in either North/South Carolina or Tennessee, but my wife is from Indiana so southern Indiana is also a possibility. Of course, she's a converted Wolverine fan.
