Can already claim that they have when it comes to facilities. Spent $85 million on their new basketball arena, and their football stadium, seating around 26,000 or so, is plush with lots of amenities which cost around $65 million. Have quality facilities for all Olympics programs also. Certainly not a lot of paper "plans" lying around for decades gathering dust, like some in Huntington. 24,000 or so enrollment, in proximity to greater Richmond, and the exploding DC-Northern Virginia and Maryland subsurb markets. Get around 5,000 or new freshmen yearly from about 24,0000 applicants or so. MU could learn a lot about student recruitment from them if it ends up in the same league with JMU!
There are certainly at least two dozen schools, including JMU, that COULD go I-A (FBS/FCS is a stupid) but just haven't. Some would rather be champions of the second division that an also ran in the first, but most just do not have the courage to try.
People have been talking about JMU for 20 years. When they send in their application, give me a call, until then they remain a I-AA program.
