Washington (CNN)Joe Biden twice on Saturday said he met with students who survived the mass shooting in Parkland, Florida, when he was vice president. But the Parkland shooting took place in February 2018, a little more than a year after Biden left office.

The Democratic presidential hopeful -- who has acknowledged he is a "gaffe machine" -- has a reputation for making misstatements on the campaign trail. His latest campaign gaffes came at a gun control forum in Des Moines, Iowa, when he described meeting survivors of the shooting that left 17 dead when they visited Washington to lobby for stricter gun laws.
"I met with them and then they went off up on the Hill when I was vice president," Biden said at the forum. The former vice president made the same error later that day when he told reporters, "Those kids in Parkland came up to see me when I was vice president," while describing members of Congress ducking meetings with the students.
Biden did meet with a group of Parkland survivors in 2018, but he did so after he left office. Another mass shooting -- in 2012 at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut -- took place while Biden served as vice president.
A spokeswoman for Biden, Kate Bedingfield, on Sunday tweeted a link to a story about Biden meeting with the Parkland students in 2018, writing: "Wouldn't it be nice to have a president who consoles Americans in their time of need so often that he sometimes mistakes the timing? But even more so, wouldn't it be nice to have a president who will actually fight to prevent these tragedies?"
The verbal stumble wasn't Biden's only misstep in Iowa, where a recent poll shows he maintains a lead over the rest of the Democratic field. Days prior, Biden said "poor kids are just as bright and just as talented as white kids" -- which his campaign noted was an error he immediately corrected.

He was speaking to a group of Hispanic and Asian voters in Iowa on Thursday when he said: "We have this notion that somehow if you're poor you cannot do it. Poor kids are just as bright and just as talented as white kids -- wealthy kids, black kids, Asian kids. No, I really mean it, but think how we think about it."
"They can do anything that anybody else can do, given a shot," Biden later added. On Saturday, Biden told reporters that people understood what he'd meant.
Last week in Iowa, Biden also appeared to initially confuse former British prime ministers Margaret Thatcher and Theresa May during a speech in which he recounted the international backlash to President Donald Trump's reaction to the violence in Charlottesville, Virginia. May was prime minister at the time, but while Biden appeared to immediately realize his mistake, he did not go on to name May.
And during his soapbox speech at the Iowa State Fair, Biden also bungled his "we choose truth over lies" line, and said instead: "We choose truth over facts."

When Biden does shit like this, it's a "gaffe." When Trump does it, it's a "lie."
true enough.

There are some differences between Trump's "lies" and Biden's "gaffes"....Biden usually admits when he's wrong. AND, in this case, he actually did meet with the Parkland students - he just wasn't the VP at the time. Trump - doesn't seem to care. In fact, he'll continue to recite the lie even after it's been shown to be a lie - "I've been totally exonerated"...or "it was the largest inauguration crowd in history."

The sheer volume of lies is another significant difference between the two. Now, I don't give two hoots about Biden, but, as far as lies and mis-statements are concerned, no one comes close to the lying machine that is our President.

Yeah. I mean Biden and Obama did so much to change the gun laws during their 8 years in office. Oh, wait . . .

A bit off topic....but true.

We very well know that it would have been absolutely impossible to change those laws with a republican house and senate. MoscowMitch' and his, "the Senate's #1 goal was to make Obama a one term president" summed up the support Obama could expect from the Senate on any legislation - and zero support is pretty much exactly what he got. Plus, MoscowMitch wouldn't have been serving his NRA constituents if he'd let a gun law slide through.

The only shot Obama had was during the first two years of his first term, and he was using all his legislative energy to get the economy back as well as introduce a health care bill.

Don’t worry just check cnn for how to feel. There weren’t 24 mass shootings under Obama and if there were it’s not his fault. Also, Obama and other Dems have not engaged in rhetoric that may have put cops in danger and cost lives.

Mass shootings began under Trump and he is a white nationalist. That’s all you need to know if you are a lib drone

So the Obama/Biden administration felt the economy and forced insurance coverage was more important than mass shootings/gun control? Duly noted.

Tell me about it. Considering the ease the "W" administration allowed the economy to be driven into the ditch, it's was surprising the time and effort required of the Obama administration to pull it out. F'n liberals.

How the fvck is that "off topic"? You posted a quote from Biden's own spokesperson taking about how he'd do something about mass shootings. It's absolutely on topic.
I provided the link and the quote to show proof Biden had actually met with the Parkland kids.....to coincide with the thread title: Joe Biden mistakenly says he met with Parkland victims while he was vice president.

However, the spokesperson's quote includes comments about how shitty a President Trump is (like she needs to remind us). I stand corrected.

Win or landslide? And how much? I don’t give a shit about a few hundred bucks
when he wins, it'll be a landslide, just like it was in 2016. and, when that happens, cvntry will renig on any bets he made just like he probly did in 2016.

Well, since you said "landslide," I'll be generous to you. He won the last election by 77 electoral votes. Let's make it, he has to win by more than 70 votes. And since you said you don't give a shit about a few hundred bucks, let's make it one thousand dollars.

Since I know GK and I trust him, you get your $1,000 to him and I'll get my $1,000 to him and he can hold the money until the election and make sure it gets to the winner.

Deal?
