Former Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel announced Friday he is engaged to girlfriend Bre Tiesi, according to TMZ Sports. ESPN's Adam Schefter confirmed the 2012 Heisman Trophy winner popped the question.
TMZ reported Manziel and Tiesi have been dating since late 2016 after a December trip to Miami.
"When you find a girl as amazing as I did that saved me from where I was in my life, you absolutely put a ring on it," Manziel told TMZ.
News of Manziel's engagement comes nine days after NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported the 24-year-old was "drawing real interest from teams" at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.
But in order to land another shot in the pros, Manziel will have to convince teams he isn't an off-field risk like he was with the Browns.
Not only did Manziel have drinking and drug problems, but he encountered legal issues when he was indicted on an assault charge against his ex-girlfriend, Colleen Crowley.
Although Manziel initially faced the prospect of jail time, the Associated Press reported in November that he reached a "tentative deal with prosecutors" to dismiss the assault charge.
Since then, Manziel has maintained he is on the mend and wants to pursue a career in the NFL.
In January, he told ESPN.com's Ed Werder that he "achieved sobriety without professional assistance" and still has a desire to suit up on Sundays.
Weeks later, Sporting News' Alex Marvez cited a source who said Manziel planned "to volunteer for testing under the NFL's drug policy as part of his comeback attempt."
