I won't spoil the movie for anyone, but I will say I enjoyed it immensely. Having read the book first, I was surprised that there was as little deviation as there was. Outside of a few parts it pretty much followed it. The cinematography was stunning. I didn't watch it in 3D because I'm not a fan, but it would probably be the way to go if you're into that kind of thing. Seeing this in an Imax theater would be pretty cool as well. That doesn't help us locals though because...you know...West Virginia and all.
As I suspected, they made science an integral part of the movie, but toned it down in a way that wasn't too nerdy for the general public. One of the reasons NASA was into the film was the accuracy of the science. The science in the movie was much more traditional than the theoretical physics that Interstellar brought us. As much as I liked Interstellar, I thought The Martian topped it in its greater appeal to the general public.
If anyone else has seen it Id love to hear your take. It's getting very good reviews and the early feedback is very positive.
