Just Saw This...

Landon's article makes it sound like it was some kind of unexpected development, but I feel like all three of his boys will get scholarship offers if they play football. Who cares if they're any good, every game you can get him to come to is a win for the program.

Hell, if one of them came out as trans they'd still get a football scholly. Chad's dog would get a scholarship offer. Chad has an imaginary best friend? Get him on campus and size him for a helmet.

This makes me feel really old. My perfect scenario.,..Sign his son and Chad comes as head coach. Bring back the magic.

Would you really want that? Let's say he does come back and becomes a HC, and is not very successful. Is the last thing you want to remember about CP is being a unsuccessful HC.

You know how narcissistic some herdfans are. A few unproductive years and they will turn on CP, like a rabid pitbull against it's owner.

I would bet he is under the radar like his dad was at this point in time. He has had his dad coach him his entire life. Win win for all if he signs with us.

Being under the radar in Early-Mid 90's, possibility. Now in the information age where videos and stat's are at anyone's fingertips? Not likely.

I guess what I was trying to say isn't that school really small? I meant he isn't playing against the big schools so maybe he isn't creating a lot of visibility. Just my view.

We should offer virtually every legacy at lest a walk in opportunity. Bring back former player’s families and their Resources.

Chad should be brought back and if he does well great. I am sure he knows what the fans expect from him If he would ever come back.I believe he would resign before he was ever fired if he was not living up to expectations.

Not to change the subject but we don’t see Chad, Byron, Moss, Troy Brown, even Vinny Curry around here as often as we would like.
What happened? Brown and Chad used to be pretty regular around the program.

Chad's coaching, Byron's coaching, Vinny's playing, Moss on tv. Don't know about Brown.

Very true but still, seems like there would be a day where the program could have them back at some point. No one's schedule is that busy. Seems the program or AD has alienated a few; and that's not good.

This. We (sports fans) tend to have unrealistic expectations for our childhood heroes. Or even as adults. They gave us such great memories that are etched in our brains. We keep the expectations in our heads that they should still make Marshall a priority in THEIR lives. The truth is, our heroes' college experience was just like the rest of ours. It was some of the best times of their lives! But they're all "growed" up now. They have great memories of their playing days as well, but they moved on, got married & are raising their kids, some probably have grands already. Since leaving, the above mentioned have certainly given back to their alma mater, whether financially or visiting the locker room before games. I am sure Byron represents MU proudly if MU comes up in conversation, whether w/Brady or anybody else. Randy has shouted us out. The more a person expects from someone in their (former player) position, the more disappointed they will become. They will do what they can, when they can. And if they don't, who are we to judge them for it?
Off soapbox now.....

Not saying they have to camp out at The Joan but don’t you find it odd that they never come back?
I see many players of other schools come back for games. Whether it’s Miami U, OSU, etc. TV always has shots of those guys on the sidelines.
Not sure if the lack of presence is an issue with our AD or whatever the reason. Just saying it’s sad they never come back. Not even for one game.
They have busy lives but seems to me if they felt wanted and that they could help the program, they would show up once a year or every other year or so.
Guess I am thinking crazy.

Great photo choice by the local paper

Chad took the lead in a major fund raising program not that long ago. I have a picture of Randy walking through the parking lot and he stayed in a hotel in town. We all know about Danny and Mike. I see Red Dawson at most games tailgating. Coach Pruitt is no stranger. What do you want??????

I assume by your handle that you are 2003 Master's champion Mike Weir... It's good to have you on board as a Herd fan.

Also, you are correct... Chad is around when his time allows. He coaches, has a family, and is involved with projects unrelated to MU. Randy is one of the most popular NFL broadcasters and is with ESPN all football season, so it's hard to blame him for not being in Huntington on regular Saturdays. Same with Byron, coaching with the Bucs, he can't just take a Saturday off to come to the Joan.

Really?!?!?! Chad has done more for MU than anyone as far as athlete/alumni goes.
He could stop today and still be the most active sports alumni we've ever had.
Do you also not think these guys have a life outside of MU?

No, i think they should all sleep in the schewey and hang on every word Doc says. Chad dropped his box for a reason. He is likely the greatest ambassador we have ever had - and there have been many.
Seriously though, you are right and I’m wrong in my assessment. That’s cool.

For those who want former HERD athletes to stay involved with MU, well, its a TWO WAY STREET, folks!

Check out the Thursday article in the HD media "WVU football goes digital to better connect with alumni". It talks about how Head FB Coach Brown is using digital and marketing sources to boost the program and "engage all current and former WVU student-athletes with available services and resources . . ." .

Look at how WVU basketball coach Huggins welcomes and makes available the resources at the EERS' plush basketball practice facility to former WVU players, many of whom are playing in, or trying to play in, Pro basketball leagues somewhere!

Meanwhile, back at MU. Heck, Hamrick and staff have barely scratched the surface in trying to get Coach D'Antoni's program an adequate and rather Spartan practice facility (in Gulllickson gym). Danny can't worry too much about helping former players when his current ones lack adequate, and basic, facilities, essentials, etc.

IMO, the MU Athletic Department's basic attitude and approach vis-a-vis its former athletes as a whole are the same as its attitude towards it general fan base: that of benign indifference!

It would make better business sense to do the upgrades to the Cam and Gullickson with the $5 million promised and then do baseball.
Basketball makes money and with upgraded facilities it can make even more. As we know baseball doesn't and never will. Although I want baseball as much as anyone, why wouldn't you upgrade a money maker before starting construction on a baseball facility. Get them BOTH done but do the basketball first. Danny had been told all along that the basketball upgrade won't start until after the first pitch is thrown in the baseball stadium

Isn's a portion of the current Herd Rises campaign dedicated to turning Gullickson into a b'ball practice facility? Agree, why not start that upgrade if it's cheaper than a baseball stadium. Plus much of the work is done indoors. Still hoping we get both - sooner than later.
