We offered a Perferred Walk-On spot to Legatron but he decided to walk-on and UCF and stay close to home.

Doc never offers kickers right out of the gate

Why are kickers offered scholarships so rarely? It's just as an important position as any. If a scholarship could lock up a good kicker for three to four years, I'd think that's gotta be worth it. I can't stand it when we don't have a kicker.

We didn't offer a kicker but Nick Smith was put on scholarship.

Justin Haig was offered a scholly out of high, but to my knowlegde doc hasnt recruited a kicker with a scholly other than that.

The reason most schools don't offer a K a scholly right away is some adjust better to college game better than others. In HS they kick off holding tees vs ground etc. Most schools will get 2-3 kickers on campus and let them compete...giving scholly to K that earn jobs. You just can't have unproductive kickers taking up schollys. I'm comfortable with Smith...who really challenged Haig last year as a FR vs a SR. The 2 long range guys are both back for kickoffs etc...and Williams is back as a punter. It's always good to have a couple of quality FG guys in case someone goes into a funk or pulls a hammy. I think that's why Doc tried to bring the other guy in. He may still bring another to campus.

I'm comfortable with Smith, too. I think he will end up being better than Haig sooner rather than later.
