With today's bowl game win, La Tech gets to 10 wins for the first time since moving up to FBS.

Wonder what we would have been if our best receiver hadn't missed the first nine games, the second best the last 8, our best overall player, all but the start of the first game?
Wouldn’t have mattered. Our QB couldn’t get them the ball. It’s on Doc and we all know it.

The Independence Bowl was the bowl game I hoped the Herd would have played in, getting tired of visiting Tampa every year, anywhere but Tampa, looks like Shreveport would be a fun place to visit, the date would have been better too. Better opponent match up also, I don't think anyone on here really expected us to beat UCF. Did anyone else notice the La Tech QB J'Mar Smith give head coach Skip Holtz the high hat after the last TD at the end of the game? After they scored J'Mar was running off the field Skip was happy and tried to grab him but he just ran threw his arms and on up the field. He probably has some hard feelings and dislike for Coach Skip after being suspended

MU goes to Florida every year so Doc can keep his pipeline of recruits. Exciting and new is something Doc does not think about because everything he does has a recruiting bent. Firing a coach winning 8 games a year is hard to do but Doc and Hamrick have brought this lack of excitement issue on to themselves.

He and Skip are pretty tight. After the game they had a long congratulatory embrace on the field.

Looking like FAU and UAB will be the favorites in the divisions next fall - based on who they have coming back.

I think it's easy to fire a coach after a 8 win season when the expectations were for 11 or 12 wins, when including the CUSA Championship and bowl games, and a conference championship. Seems pretty cut and dry to me and a lot of others.

Yes, MU has been to Tampa in back to back years but they don't go 'every year.' Marshall has been to the Tampa/St. Pete area for a bowl game 4 times in the last 9 seasons. That's less than half.

With that said, I was hoping that Marshall would've been offered a different bowl location this season, like Frisco, or New Orleans, or to the Independence Bowl. Just to see the team play in a different bowl game or pull a match up against a first time opponent.

Also, Shreveport isn't all that much fun to visit.

It’s interesting to me to see comments like how do you get rid of a coach who consistently wins 8 games and goes to a bowl.

The answer to that is very simple it’s all about who you play. For example during Mark Snyder’s era at Marshall, with the schedules he played if he consistently went 8-4, won bowl games, and won his division twice and the whole CUSA once in 10 years people would look at him completely different than Doc with the exact same record because of who they played. Snyder consistently played multiple P5s in his tenure and CUSA was basically the AAC of today. Consistently averaging 8 wins with those schedules would have been an accomplishment and would have probably netted Snyder a P5 head coaching job.

Contrast that to Doc, where he has had multiple years where he hasn’t played even one P5. He has also played multiple FCS schools none of which were the elite of FCS. That plus the fact that playing in this version of CUSA you should have at least 4 guaranteed wins by playing several teams ranked in the bottom 100.

So as you can see there are definitely different ways an 8-4 record can be achieved and looked at. That is why someone like Doc should be on the hot seat with a consistently 8-4 avg., even though we know that isn’t remotely the case. I’m done speculating, our AD thinks he’s great, and our President thinks he’s great, they are the only 2 that matter, so you might as well get used to the fact he will be here until he chooses to go.

Same thing we did or worse

Not hard if you have better standards and demand winning championships.

7-5, 8-4 or 8-5 records on a regular basis are nothing to write home about in a highly watered down CUSA. Certainly does nothing to get the adrenalin flowing in a fan base, but as we see Hamrick is totally oblivious to that fact!!
