At the same time, it announced plans to close four US plants

While those plants, which include about 6,000 hourly jobs, have yet to close, GM is moving ahead with the salaried staff reductions, a GM spokesman confirmed Friday. The timing of the layoffs was first reported by the Detroit News.
The company had about 2,300 salaried staff accept voluntary buyout packages that were offered to 18,000 employees. In addition, there were 1,500 contract employees who were not retained by the company.

That leaves the remainder of the 8,000 planned job cuts to be accomplished with the involuntary layoffs.

OH, NO ! THATS OVER 10,000,000 JOBS LOST THIS WEEK ALONE
TO MUCH LOSING

You just aren't smart enough to "get it". I've told you guys several times I'm on the board for amusement, and what amuses me perhaps the most are you cons celebrating lower statistics now that weren't good enough for you under Obama when they were better. And after I tell you this, you still won't get it and you'll brag about those statistics of cheetos that aren't as good.

This is what it looks like when EG posts

Wait, I thought Obama saved Government Motors? I remember when he screwed over all the little old lady bond holders and secured creditors to do it,

Funny, I thought that tax cut for the middle class would keep all the GM employees safe from layoffs.

You and 88 are equally dumb. And you of all people should know better: Wall Street expects a fast nickle over a slow dime. GM is fine. GM is cutting money to invest in THE FUTURE of autonomous cars and other bullshit that isn't coming for 30 years. This is meant to IMPRESS Wall Street. GM and Ford both are cutting sedans and white collar jobs to invest in what is immediately bullshit, all to impress Wall Street (that keeps pumping money into Tesla, haha). Meanwhile the more conservative Asian market makes no such demands on Toyota and Honda, which while quietly investing in such bullshit are still continuing business as usual.

Don't believe me? Tell me if GM is making or profit or not. And the auto market is cooling, even as average transaction prices are rising...still making a profit as leaner sales times are kicking in. But oh no, that slow dime is BAD.

GM is fine? They screwed the govt while making shitty products and being big and bloated. That's part of the problem. The govt, including Obama, kept pumping them up.

On the flip side we need GM to make it. We need the jobs and the industry to do well. I honestly don't know what the answer is. Would hurt us tremendously if a company like GM went under.

Is GM currently making shitty products? I believe their products are as reliable as any other brand....if you take care of the vehicle.
