LeBron's anti-semitic comments

Must be tough for you cons, you have to choose between defending blacks or Jews, or is it neither.

His quote of a rap lyric stereotyping Jews as very wealthy is anti-semitic? Most people would find that as a compliment.
I was trying to listen to the song on the local country and western station, but apparently they banned rap music back in the early 90s.

Yeah. Because everyone on the left just loves stereotypes. Oh. Wait. It's OK to stereotype Jewish people because they're viewed as "white" and/or anti-Islam by the left, making their scorn justified.

Lebron is a lucky sperm cell who happened tobe born big and can jump. Lucky he lives here and is not delivering pizza or in jail

I think all should be forgiven. I don’t think he meant ill will. He just didn’t see how it could be construed negatively. It was just dumb to post that.

The same way if someone said “I’m higher than a black man jumps” after smoking pot. You can see it as a compliment (like rifle says) to the clearly superior athletic prowess of blacks...but it might be offensive too.

The left has made it offensive to say things like this. That’s the irony and the whole point of mocking him.

Due to it being the Christmas season, I'm going to attempt to be nice to everyone today and tomorrow. I wish some of those guys over on HN would follow my lead, and stop picking on YAGs.

.

You'll never have to worry about this, but a stereotype existed that all West Virginians were very intelligent, would that be bad? If I used that stereotype would it be bad? Of course not.

Not all stereotypes are negative. Not all stereotypes are untrue. Using them in many applications is correct. Hell, companies of all sizes use stereotypes in strategizing their plans all of the time.

Not too many years ago, there was a well known rap song that repeatedly used "We getting Arab money" in its lyrics. Hell, the song was called "Arab Money."

So tell me how LeBron's comment was accepted by the left because Jews are viewed as "anti-Islam" while the "left" had no problem with using "Arab money," the same exact stereotype . . . to clearly not an anti-Islam group.

I don’t personally find it too offensive (I’m not Jewish or easily offended though) but the ESPN article did have this take...

“While James said he interpreted the lyric as touting a strength of the Jewish business community, there is a long-standing stereotype linking Jewish people's priorities to money and material goods that the lyrics gloss over.

"Historically, Jewish materialism was used by anti-Semites seeking to demean the value of Judaism," Yale professor Eliyahu Stern told the Times of Israel in August. "It's often been used as a way of delegitimizing Judaism's spiritual and religious values by those who depict Judaism as a cover for hoarding, egoism and an expression of difference."

=====

Just like my athletic prowess comment could be spun as “historically comments like this were used to dehumanize blacks and focus on them as physical units of production (slavery) and not a fully formed intelligent person.

When what is in Lebrons mind is Jews are good at business or what is in the “jump comment” mind is blacks are really athletic and I wish I was too but can be construed as offensive by some.

I'm well aware of both of those stereotypes. However, the quote LeBron used was entirely different than that stereotype. The quote he used wasn't focused on a hungry pursuit of money, being cheap, or putting money as their top priority. It was focused on their overall wealth, just like the rap song was about "Arabs."

His stereotype was about the success Jews have had obtaining money which equals wealth. Pretend that you made a comment about wanting to get "black money." You base wanting "black money" on success blacks have had in athletics and entertainment which is a huge windfall of money. Does your comment about wanting "black money" mean you are perpetuating a stereotype about blacks being athletic, having superior physical skills and lacking intellect, etc.? No. It's simply about their success in getting money, not the stereotypes surrounding it. Likewise, the quote James used isn't about the stereotypes surrounding HOW Jews obtained money, but rather, that they were good at it.

I agree with you, YAGS, I think he meant no harm. I was just posting why some might take it another way.

It’s just the nature of today’s world I guess. You explain you meant no harm, apologize, and move on, and hope the twitter mob doesn’t demand more.
