I am no Newsom fan but if he did run, he could likely beat Mush. The Dem Party won't let that happen.
I don’t think he beats him with the incumbency advantage.

I mean, you all may understand his national profile better than me since of course I hear about him all the time, but I don’t think he’s exactly nationally beloved.

I think a lot of Dems nationwide would vote for someone besides Mush. I think even Dems want a way out of Mush. I just don't think the party establishment would allow it.

I think that as long as Democrats are afraid of Trump coming back they’re going to run to the safe option that’s beaten him before.

Because of the name. People will soon figure out he is the crazy Kennedy.
Doubtful. This has 1976 Jimmy Carter and 1992 Clinton wiffs to it. I can see him gaining steam among independents and even some conservatives with his stances on lock downs. Going into primaries Biden could be under 50% in the polls and democrat convention look like Chicago 1968.

No.

These are poor comparisons. Neither were incumbents. Carter...I mean, who are you going to vote for, George fvcking Wallace? Jerry Brown didn't declare until late. Now, 1980 Carter you might have a point, but Crazy Kennedy ain't no Ted, and Ted wasn't no Jack or Bobby. Clinton, honestly the most skilled politician in my lifetime, running cocaine for the CIA and looking to run against a guy running cocaine for the CIA...Jerry Brown in there as some weird also-ran, and you got charismatic Clinton going against these really nice men that are as exciting as watching paint dry.

1968...sure, if Biden dies in over the summer. And we can only hope for riots.

The left and DC machine want Mush Biden. That way they can sit him in a corner and run things.

The Democrats leadership wants Mush Biden.

The American people wanted Biden when they elected him President.

There is no controversy in an incumbent running practically unopposed.

…but he’s not unopposed. He’s incompetent and the DNC machine knows it.
Ok, neither was Trump 4 years ago. But nobody takes a primary challenger to a sitting President seriously unless there’s a reason to, and there’s no reason to.

If Newsom were actually running then you’d have a point, but some “vaccines cause autism” lunatic whose last elected office was (checks notes) ****ing nothing, and we’ve only ever heard of because of his dad, isn’t moving the needle.

The dude is a mental mess and couldn't run a lemonade stand. That is regardless if he is a D or a R.

Let me spell it out for you. He is like the substitute teacher that a class knows has no control of the classroom and you can get away with all kinds of stuff. He is an old man that is in no shape to be running the country. They all know it and that is why the want him. The govt, the deep state, the DNC, the machine, etc.

I’m asking an honest question - what successes is Newsome hanging his hat on to support running for President?

president
Joe Biden Smile GIF

He runs a state with a $3.6t GDP, with a budget of $300b? Say what you will about the man's politics, but he ain't exactly inexperienced in governance.
If he were a ceo he would be in trouble. California is bleeding population and businesses are running away. Not a good trend for them.

No reason? Do you honestly think Biden isn’t in a state of cognitive decline? You really want him at 86 making decisions for this country? He’s damn near a vegetable now.

I'm not sure he's going to make it through the rest of this term. He's looking worse and worse each passing day. At some point, he's not going to be able to function. Even Fetterman is probably making fun of him now.

Problem being, and dumbasses like raoul need to understand this. Kamala Harris will be your President once mush brains can no longer function, or possibly even kills over. Do those dumbasses like raoul really want to see a President Harris?

He’s managed the 8th largest economy in the world for a while now so that helps prove he has experience. It’s 9% bigger than it was when he took office, even with the impact of Covid, which looks good.

He’s seen as championing a lot of causes that people on the left care about, like abortion access, healthcare access (the CA insulin plan specifically), education access and free lunch for students. California is seen as a leader in environmental issues so by association he gets a lot of credit for that, deserved or not.

Right now his homelessness/mental health plan is going into the implementation phase. If it actually works (I have doubts) that’s going to be a huge feather in his cap.

None of these things are meant to suggest a conservative should vote for him, just to answer why a liberal might.

You already probably have plenty of reasons not to like him, but to throw a couple I agree with out there: he’s privileged and tone deaf. He got his start with Getty money which he’s effectively parlayed into higher and higher political office. I doubt he has firm principles and he’s followed California a lot more than leading California. He’s prone to doing unfathomably stupid things like going out to eat right after announcing shut downs.

If he were elected I think people would be surprised at how fiscally centrist and pro business he ends up being. You can point at a lot of things that have happened in CA as counter examples to that and that’s fair, but my impression is that, again, he’s following in a lot of those cases and not pushing it. In charge of the US, which is much more moderate than CA, I think he ends up way more moderate than people imagine. But that’s my conjecture.

There’s no reason to have a debate when there’s no legitimate opponent.

I said they are bleeding population and business is leaving. Not a good trend. California is not in a good tend right now.
Florida is an aging population, but as people die off, others move in. EVERYONE is moving out of CA.

Bleeding is a relative term but .18% doesn’t hit that for me. But we have too many people as it is anyway. Ship a million out tomorrow and it probably still won’t even help the traffic.
