Looks like all

I believe we will see something next Friday never done at Marshall before. Both the football team, CBSSN and basketball ACC, will be available on national TV outlets.

did i read the basketball schedule right? Herd has home and away games this year with a non-conference opponent in Toledo?

Yes. We had the last of an existing 4 year deal to play them in Toledo this year. Then as it turns out they are in the exempt event we play in every year with home games vs. Robert Morris, Howard and Toledo. The lone away game is Notre Dame.
We have signed a new 4 year deal with them beginning next year with the first game, I believe, in Huntington

If the current standings remain as they are, I'd say Midland and SV will likely play on Saturday as their opponents would have very long drives to the Huntington area. jmo.

Lets hope.

Looks like all the local high school football teams will be playing next Friday night. Visiting team has choice to move to Saturday because of travel distance. Going to hurt crowd at La. Tech game.

If you care about a HS football game, and you are not in HS and your kid or grandkid is not in HS, you need help. Come watch the Herd. Anyway, you are correct that the away team gets to pick the time. If you are the principal or coach at these local HSs, you pick up the phone and call your counterpart and tell them the deal. Anybody who does not comply is an a**hole.

Close. Notre Dame game is on ACC Network Extra, AKA ESPN3, AKA the internet. Wonder if all the UND people are blasting their AD because some of their games are on the internet? Probably not. More reasonable fans.

The LTSU game is shaping up to be a repeat of the 2014 championship game - sparsely attended, cold and miserable, but with the potential of something really good happening that will make it all worthwhile.

Now here's hoping god has forgotten he gave us a win that other time.

I would think that to be a true statement. I like going to high school football games once in a blue moon, but if given the choice, I would select the college game, unless I happened to have a kid playing in the high school game. Luckily, I'm not sure where all my illegitimate kids even live or attend high school. Plus, all these AAA programs are playing to be the team that gets beat by 40-50 points in the championship game to the Dawgs.

I agree with that. Anybody know how the $$ get split up in HS playoffs? If I read the WVSSAC website right, they take all the $$ after some small expenses, so they are not stupid.

Frigid f*cki g cold wouldn't describe that 2014 title game, but worth it?

Yes.

Yes, supporting your local community athletics sure makes you a loser...

Said no one ever.. well, 1 person, but he knows nothing, so really it's 0

If the standings and ratings stay the same, Spring Valley will probably host either South Charleston or Riverside. There's a chance it could be Preston High School, but if it's either SC or Riverside, SV may elect to play on Friday night.

I’d say you are correct. I was basing that on Preston or another eastern panhandle team having to make the trip.
As you said, I don’t see SV moving the game to Saturday if they play a more local team. Would be nice though.

Current projections from WV Metro News has Midland hosting Riverside, Spring Valley hosting Hurricane and Huntington traveling to George Washington.

Would love to see a Midland - Spring Valley rematch along the way.

Martinsburg is a lock for another title.

No. Just top 16. All divisions that way. Having said that, there aren’t many more than 16 AAA in state so odds are good.

Do all AAA teams in WV make the playoffs?
only the top 16. Unfortunately, I think there's only maybe 26 AAA teams in WV, so some teams get in with 4-6 record. Preston County is one of those teams this year, and will get annihilated at Martinsburg. Preston County probably couldn't beat the top 7 or 8 teams in single A.

Close. 28 AAA teams.

I counted incorrectly, there are 29 AAA schools.

Only 3 AAA have less than 1K students.

With that said though, Cabell Midland is #1 with 1,965 and Ripley is #29 with 933. That's quite the difference but it doesn't mean the quality of talent decreases with enrollment. For example, Spring Valley is #22 in enrollment with 1,050 but they've had solid teams for quite a few seasons.

I’d say SV is under 1000 this year. Not that it matters.

WV has 16 per class, which makes for way too many making playoffs in AAA, and only reclasses every 4 years. It is correct that, IMHO, looking at the HS enrollment numbers is a good way to see the decline in different areas, as people with kids are in the productive earning years.

Anyway, there are 29 AAA teams, 44 AA teams, and 41 football playing A teams. There are 53 total A schools.

Among local and local-ish teams, Riverside @ Cabell Midland is Sat. 1:30 as is Hurricane @ Spring Valley. South Charleston (SCHS is among the top 5 HS alma maters for MU) plays @ Parkersburg South Friday 7:30, Capitol plays at Wheeling Park at the same time. Huntington plays @ George Washington Friday at 7:30 (understanding that the away team picks the time, hard to justify). In the other classes, Winfield plays at Fairmont West on Friday night; Tolsia hosts Wheeling Cen. Cat. On Saturday afternoon.

Visitors decide the time and day of play.

Correct. Many coaches, even short trip, going away for the playoff game will opt for Sat and/or an afternoon start to attempt to make the home team a little uncomfortable and out of routine.

Why in the world would Huntington want to play a Friday night game? It was their choice.

It might come as a surprise to know that most local HS coaches and AD’s don’t give two s..ts about Marshall or their issues.

Thank goodness Salmons at CM is a former player and Dingess at SV likes the Herd and has two former players getting minutes on the field.

Could be worse.

I’ll never understand that attitude if it’s true. You have a FBS school in your backyard, that gives out scholarships in several sports of which you have kids that play in those sports, Why would you not want to have a great relationship with them. Throw in the fact that if it weren’t for Marshall, Huntington and the surrounding areas would cease to exist. I’ll never understand the mentality.
