"In what can only be described as a stunning move made nine games into the season......AD, Judy Rose & the Charlotte 49ers fired Mark Price, basketball coach. Price, age 53, had a 30-42 record in two-plus seasons and was 3-6 this season"....Charlotte Observer. His son, a senior, left the team today. Price signed a $500,000 per year 5-year contract with incentives in season one.

Ex-Appy State, Head Coach..... and current 49ers Assistant coach, Houston Fincher, takes over as interim head coach.

Rose added..."I did not see our players performing hard for Coach Price...our record should not be what it is with the competition we have played to date."

49ers fans lit up Charlotte sports talk radio asking..."How can AD Rose retain Coach Lambert (football) and fire Price?"

Fans are not happy all over the country, yet, coaches are recycled and receive HUGE raises to boot.

Wow. That is somewhat surprising, but good for them. UNCC is a school on the rise. They should expect better! I recollect that the 49ers have had some success in getting to the Dance in the past.
 
Basketball is tame when compared to football. A&M paid tens of millions to fire Sumlin and hire Fisher who had barely a winning season in his final year at FSU. What if Fisher has the same record as Sumlin did?
Tennessee, still the laughing stock of college football, we all know the Schiano thing, but then they offered someone 4$ million when they were not even in a bidding war, and could have gotten said person for maybe half that amount.

Now, it's been talked about, that coaches are gonna have to be as squeaky clean as they possibly can...because schools aren't going to be able to afford their buyouts but will want to fire them, so they'll dig up what they can and try to pin it against them if there's a situation where the school wants to fire the coach but can't fire them, so they find something they did wrong to get them out of the contract.

Bobby Lutz, currently with the Windy City Bulls (NBA Development)...was the most successful Coach with the 49ers when they made the BIG DANCE five times [1999, 2001, 2002, 2004,2005]......Lutz compiled a record of 218--158 at Charlotte and he is their all time wins leader. If my memory is correct...Judy Rose forced him out too and he landed at NC State as a highly paid Assistant Coach under Mark Godrey. He lost out too when Godrey was terminated by AD, Debbie Yow.

Will Lutz be considered by AD Rose to return to Charlotte.....Million $$ question?

He's always the first guy that I associate with the Niners and their Final Four run. But they have been to the dance about 10 times since Marshall last earned a trip in 1987.
 
Look for Mark Gottfried to be the next Charlotte coach. That would be good for CUSA

Coach Lee Rose...was at the helm of the 49ers when "Cornbread" Maxwell lead UNCC [now called Charlotte] to the Final Four in 1977 (the year I moved to Charlotte). Over the years I've gotten to know the Rose family.....their son (Mike) is the football defensive coordinator at Charlotte Christian School. Lee was FINALLY inducted..... and had his name raised to the rafters at Halton Arena last year. I told him..."it's about damn time!"

They are smart. Doesnt take 5 yrs to see your team is going nowhere. Get rid of the coach is where you start.

Sisters......have some faith!

Danny has this "young team" playing their asses off and the fans attending games in person...are witness to their good play. Not sure why you have an ax to bury with a Marshall graduate, ex-Herd basketball star......loving his job coaching at Marshall?

They will be tested at Xavier next week...a difficult place to win. It will be a good measuring stick to see how much they have grown...to date. Buckle up your jeans and get on board. I predict this is going to be an exciting year for HERD fans with our Hoops squad.

Sweeny I do go to the games. Live 30 minutes from the Cam. Dont dislike danny at all. They are fun to watch. Darn right they play hard. Just dont get enough good players. Im talking success in the ncaa tourney. Now apologise or i will come down there and put knots so high on your head they will have snow on top of them. Go herd. Ps. Also when i wrote that I was in a pissy mood.

Sisters...(1) ...SwEEnEY.....with 3 s. LOL LOL. My old arse head could not take many more knots.

(2)...Thank you for supporting HERD HOOPS. It's a hard task Dan & his staff have because Marshall has not been to the NCAA since 1987* (30 years).... played TCU in Charlotte. For some reason an * indicates the 1987 appearance was vacated by NCAA. Not sure what that is all about?

(3) Dan & his staff inherited a Dumpster Screw to put it mildly and progress is being made.....The last two years they were eliminated in the CUSA Tournament by league champion MTSU, who made noise in NCAA play. The team is getting more folks to come to the Cam [$$$ for the program].....players are not getting into trouble....the guys are A-B students...Team is fun to watch.

HELP is on the way next season....and this year's team returns most players. However, I support this squad is getting better each time out. Defense has saved them in a couple of games. YES there is a "D" in D'Antoni.

Xavier should be favored in Ohio, December 19 ETSU lost to them in Ohio by 2-points Saturday night. The Herd just may surprise Xavier if Marshall is over looked. It should be a good test to determine how much progress The HERD has accomplished to date. Conference play begins December 28 when So Miss Eagles come courting at The Cam...followed by La Tech on Dec. 30. The conference schedule gets into high gear in January.

All games are important, but how the team is performing at the end of February before heading to Tournament play in Frisco, Texas in early March----will dictate if Dan, staff & PLAYERS will be =====BIG DANCING.

Hope to see you at The Cam in January.....I'll buy you a Coke.

Cool sweeney. I will pull my old trick. Send my grandson to the scorers table and say. I cant find my daddy, his name is gary sweeney. They will call u to come get your kid. I will be nearby waiting and watching. I did that at the buffalo wayne and magnolia state championship. No it was east bank. Anyway my daughter went to the scorers box and said im amy leichliter and cant find my daddy. His name is skip. Here come my first cousin walking fast to the press box. He saw me and said WHAT HAVE YOU DONE. Also his parents in new martinsville heard it over the TV and thought skip must be letting the kids run wild. East bank won

The * concerns the multiple NCAA rules violations committed during the Huckabay era. MU was directed to erase the appearance from their record. Did you ever wonder why MU played so poorly that day and seemed disinterested? I’ve got a theory based on personal knowledge.

As always Roy was passive aggressive in blaming the players then blaming himself for the players failure.

Technically Fisher finished 5-6 on the season.

He also didn't recruit for about a month prior, that is why FSU only has 4 signed recruits. Dude quit and then walked away.
