Marshall ranked #25 in AP Poll

That’s probably about right. The homer in me wanted inside “the bubble”, but stepping back & looking around it’s a good start. As long as we keep on winning, we will keep climbing. They should do a magnetic display (like The Basketball Tournament) Go Herd!!

5 teams from the Big-10 were added back in. Marshall received 40 votes, these numbers apply to this weeks Coaches poll. However the AP has not included the Big-10 yet in their polls, so this week Marshall debuts at #25!

Good. Fvck the Big 10. Make them earn their rankings.

In which case, you have to argue that Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Florida, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, and Kentucky also shouldn't be in the top 25 since none of those schools has played a game. So now Marshall should be #16 . . . and try saying that with a straight face.

Hell, let's just call Marshall national champions, because "fvck the FBS. Make them earn their national title."

I would say the same thing to the SEC/ACC teams ranked who haven't played a meaningful snap as well.
Credit to everyone but the Big 10 for playing and returning to action. Big 10 sits out then comes back at the last possible minute and expects rankings as an accomodation? No, to hell with that. Let them all play for a week and see where they end up, then rank them.

Think about this: Every season, P5 teams beat up on G5 & FCS schools, loading up (usually) 4 wins before starting in on their conference games. So, even if a P5 goes 3-5 in conference, that still = 7-5 & a comfy bowl destination, further enriching their already bloated coffers. Fast forward to 2020. They face the same problem we in the G5 face: When we play our CUSA mates, we beat each other (some more, some not so much) up and end up 7-5, 8-4, 6-6. So, Iowa, Mich, OSU, WVU, Baylor etc. are going to play 8-9 games vs each other. Their win totals will suffer, We may benefit from this! Keep winning & we’ll see what happens.....

As was mentioned yesterday on the game. This may be the year for an undefeated AAC team to make the 4 team playoff field. If the Big 10 champ loses a game or two it could open the door for Memphis or UCF. An undefeated Marshall team could then get a NY6 game

I like the thought, but lets be honest, the committee would take a 2-loss SEC team to fill out the playoffs before they take an undefeated AAC team.

The playoffs will be the Clemson/UNC winner, SEC champ and runner up, and one of Notre Dame, Big12 champ or Big 10 Champ... Just like every year.

It's not... I just threw ND in because if they finish with 2 losses or less they will always be in the conversation for big time bowl slots/playoffs because of the draw.

Theoretically, what would be really fun, is UNC beats Clemson, then Clemson beats Notre Dame and then Notre Dame beats UNC... The ACC could have a 1-loss team not in the ACC championship game and their only loss be to a top-10 opponent.

With this season already having a huge asterisk, I am rooting for chaos.

In this hypothetical scenario, the undefeated Marshall team would still need to be ranked very high in order to go to an NY6 bowl.

The reason being is that the G5 autobid was written in such a way that it says the G5 are guaranteed an NY6 bowl spot if the top G5 team isn't the playoffs. Normally this isn't even a thing, but this means that if the AAC champ somehow makes it to the playoffs, there's no G5 autobid for a non playoff NY6 bowl. Marshall (and any other G5 in the hunt) would have to qualify for an at large spot by being ranked high enough. Somewhere around the top 12.

Extremely early Bowl Projections:

R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl
ESPN, Mercedes-Benz Superdome, New Orleans, LA
Normal Bowl Tie-Ins: C-USA vs. Sun Belt Champion (if available)
Bowl Projection: Marshall vs. Louisiana

Capital One Orange Bowl
ESPN, Hard Rock Stadium, Miami Gardens, FL
ACC vs. At-Large
Bowl Projection: Notre Dame vs. UCF

If we can get UCF tp play Nov 7th. That would be nice.

Random searching: The AAC does not have any limitation on out of conference games. Would we go on the road to play UCF on 11/07? Schedule looks like we’re both open that day. Would prob have to go play in the erector set.....they would get a 3 game homestand. I hope this is something I hope is being discusssd! 1-1 series with a return game in the Joan?

Of course, the MUCH more likely scenario is that we go in conf and play UAB on 11/07......in the Joan preferably!!
Since UAB lost anaway game with Rice and we lost a home game, I believe if the match up happens it would definitely be in Huntington. Keep in mind our other crossover game is on the road.

Again, I like the idea, but I doubt it will happen... Why would UCF give up its bye in the middle of conference play to play us? They have an eight-game league slate and already beat the brains out of Georgia Tech in non-conference. They don't need a game like we do.

From Banker over on CUSABBS:

What I’m hearing is they are trying to work this out but UAB is insisting the game is in Birmingham and Marshall wants it in Huntington. The way I see the schedules, Marshall has 3 conference home games scheduled and UAB has 4. Why would UAB think they should get 5 conference home games?
It’s also worth noting that the last time we played UAB in 2014, it was in Birmingham. So we’re due for a return trip

I hate these kind of matchups, especially if both programs are ranked at the time of this bowl. It's like placing the two midgets in a cage and letting them go at it for everyone's amusement. I would much prefer taking on a larger school and taking our best shot.

Well Conference USA only has one bowl spot against against a P5 conference and it’s against the worst bowl eligible Big 12 team. Not to mention Louisiana is ranked right now

This post is dripping with politically incorrectness but...I laughed. So, you get a pass.

I agree with the premise... In years when the Sun Belt and CUSA both have a ranked team they shouldn't play each other in a bowl game. Same with the MAC (remember when we played NIU).

Perception is reality, and beating a sixth place Big12 team is better for a CUSA champ than beating a, lets say, #21 Louisiana Lafayette.

MU beats a Sun Belt team, even a ranked one, and the general populous says "meh, Louisiana Lafayette must not be that good."... Beat Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, Kansas State, etc. at least we beat "one of the big schools."

I realize this is a wacky year but With all of the schools that have opted out of playing this year shouldn't those teams that are left who have the better w/l records get the better bowls? I doubt that the regular bowl/conference affiliations will be 100% adhered to this year. And probably some bowl games will not be played this year. And minimum wins may not be in play either. If we have a good year, I would hope we would get a better bowl than what CUSA normally gets.

I think you should be rewarded with the effort of having attempted a full season including an OOC game for 2020.
Buuuuut since its about money and marketing for these greedy bastards, awards for merit don't count.
Ohio State could end up going 6-0 while playing a 6 game schedule and the CFP would want them in over a 10-0 UCF.

Ehhh...among the teams NIU beat that year was Northwestern...its not like they were a slouch.

You are right, perception is reality, but even the reality can change based on the narrative.

I think we would need to. MU needs someone like ucf more than ucf needs MU.
First off, its a ranked team, second CUSA is pretty weak on its own, MU's credibility tends to get shot because of that. Third, its a top G5 school, ending a debate on who could get the NY6 Bowl.
IF MU and ucf played and IF MU won, it would be a win over 2 ranked teams and IF MU ran the table and also won CUSA, it would (likely) mean a win over a 10 win CUSA West team.
Would that be enough?

That's the thing... That particular year NIU was a top 25 team and probably a better team than whoever finished sixth in the Big12 – It didn't matter... No one talks about that NIU game now, when fans talk "big" Marshall games/wins its alway Kansas State, Maryland, Louisville, etc.

I totally agree. App State came in ranked and there’s no way the Joan would have had the crowd that was at the Purdue game if these restrictions weren’t in place.
