Marshall to Sun Belt Official

Even though these well-known sports journalists have reported it, and Marshall athletics has now tweeted it out, I still don’t buy it.

Sam said we were going to blow it and since he knows everything, I can’t help but continue to doubt that we’re going to the Belt.

On an unrelated note, now that we have left, CUSA is apparently looking to add 5 teams as soon as possible... Among the names being thrown around --

Liberty, UConn, New Mexico State (no shockers there)... And some mix of Missouri State, Sam Houston State... North Dakota State as a football only member.

CUSA could stretch from UConn to Las Cruces... FIU to North Dakota... Judy is gonna be racking up those Capital One airline miles!

I doubt that Judy will rack up airline miles. Was she ever in Huntington?

Asking any fan base to travel from UCONN to New Mexico State is abusive. These conferences need to stop expanding their geographic foot print and be smaller. It is already harder to get people to attend live events in this era because the home experience is becoming so good. They are just making it worse by asking people to travel further. It's counterintuitive.

Why in the world would anyone want to stay in a conference that stretches' from New England to the Southwest? Judy should really be proud of herself. Liberty should stay away from Conf_USA and try and join SBC or AAC.

CUSA could be good going forward, it’s simple really; become Midwest/Southwest

Core of FIU/UTEP/LT/WKU/MTSU

Adds: Missouri State, Illinois State -or- Southern Illinois, Indiana State, North Dakota State, South Dakota State, SF Austin, Sam Houston, Montana, Central Arkansas

Not quite yet. I guess announcement was more of just a hint since the BOG has to vote on it today.

We are in the Belt. Reports are UConn is a no go for CUSA. Hope WKU and MT can go to the MAC. Maybe fill some OOC spots in the future

The Group of Five, c 2023:

- AAC. Random group of schools in, but not significant in, big cities. Still selling its snake oil to anyone stupid enough to listen.
- CUSA. Random group of schools spread out across the country, grouped together for no particular reason.
- MWC. Solid core conference of state universities in the great empty part of the country, with many of the attributes of a P5, other than the size of the state.
- MAC. Future phys ed teachers of Ohio vs. future phys, ed teachers of Michigan, in a dying part of the country.
- SBC. Nice group of former I-AAs who look really similar to one another, Only question is, as the economy ebbs and flows (looks like a big ole ebb is coming soon) can these fairly small institutions thrive, particularly considering (except for MU) each is in the shadow of a major program in its state.

No one cares. The conference name is SBC. This is history. Understand?

Every G5 team in America is in someones shadow... I would argue App isn't in the shadow of any North Carolina based ACC teams (UNC, Duke, NC State and Wake all bounce from garbage to above average year by year) but they are definitely in the shadow of Clemson and UGA in this region.

Same with Marshall... WVU isn't a football powerhouse, but Ohio State is, and Columbus is closer to Huntington than Morgantown.

Shhhhh. Sammy thinks he's on to something big here.

Sunbelt is going to be fine. Growing part of the country, outside of Huntington(whoops). But, they have good programs who want to do good and have fans that care. Similar schools serving similar needs. Good on the field product. That is what matters.

True, excepting much of the Mountain West. To a degree. But being next to Ohio is not the same as being in Ohio. Walk in any place in WV, except along the edges, and they will at least play lip service to Marshall existing. If you think that Old Dominion or Ohio or Western Kentucky or Arkansas State get that, you need to travel more.

Every other team in every G5 conference, except some of the MWC, plays in a state with a Power 4 team. We don’t. In fact every other member of the SBC is in a state where an in-state Power 4 team has won a national championship in either football and/or men’s basketball. We have only a Middle One school, which has never accomplished anything.

At least you finally admit that I was correct all along when I was informing you about the move to the SBC... at least that is a start with you
