Marshall vs Purdue change

Clearly TV related. I guess we will find out. Matt Sarz is saying CBSSN or FS1. Either would be great.

That switch probably killed any Purdue fans from attending! I could be wrong.
It's only about a 5 hour drive and the day after is Labor Day.

Purdue wouldn't be sending a bunch of fans, regardless of the date. They struggle to fill seats at home as well, and typically don't travel well to away venues, unless the game is of significance to them, like in-state rivals Notre Dame and Indiana.

All true but our students will also be gone for the holiday. Only the locals will attend. Too bad it did not remain Saturday. Oh well.

Any student gone on Sunday would have been gone on Saturday. Given youth sports on Saturdays I expect it to help attendance

It's not like Labor Day weekend is Thanksgiving or Christmas. Lots of kids stick around and party for three days.

Regardless, like 88 mentioned, moving it from Saturday to Sunday has zero impact on the kids who would have left anyways.

From my experience being a student at Marshall, Labor Day weekend was always a big party weekend. I doubt anyone is going home unless it's a hermit who doesn't go to games anyway

Students that want to go home can go home and come back early Sunday morning. I think the crowd will be great. I would rather a 7:00 start but is better than a noon start or before noon like KSU was. It could be hot though. I will be there though and can't wait.

I like the move myself especially since its Labor Day weekend.

Now instead of rushing up Friday night, sleeping, tailgating, going to the game and driving home Sunday... I can get to Huntington whenever on Friday night, spend Saturday playing golf with old friends (Go out Saturday night), tailgate, watch the game, drink in celebration or in sorrow Sunday night and drive back Monday.

If we have sorrow at the Joan with the B1G cellar-dweller, it will be a long season.

Not necessarily. This will be the first game for whoever wins the job at QB. They may suck but it's still a tall task for a first time starter. We will have to rely on thr Oline and the run game to take the pressure off. I would have preferred a FCS opponent for game one just to get our QBs feet wet.

Exactly this. Plus, if Purdue beats us, it's not the end of the world. Your point about the QB is the primary question mark for the team, as most other departures have solid, proven, game-tested depth behind them. Couple this with the fact that our conference isn't exactly a lineup of world beaters. We could still get to 8 or 9 wins with a Purdue loss.

It is not opening Sunday for the NFL. It is the last week of pre-season and all week 4 pre-season games will be played the prior Thursday or Friday.

Leaving out the games the networks have already assigned to slots (on Thursday, Friday,Saturday or Monday), there are only 16 games between two I-A programs for networks to carry, and there are eight slots on Saturday left to be filled, plus there are other sports the networks have committed to for Sunday (golf, tennis, NASCAR, baseball). So we are probably going to have one of maybe two or three games on national TV for the whole day.

This is a total win.
