Looks like he is back and getting some respect again.

The Cavs host Houston on Tuesday and Tyronn Lue said Mike D'Antoni's influence has been palpable: "It's been great. I mean, you see all the teams running some version of his offense. His offense is spreading the floor, having a shooting big at the 4 position, the 5 rolling down the middle of the floor and just playing with pace and trying to get the ball up the floor in a timely fashion. A lot of ‘pistol' actions he brought to the game. So, everyone is taking something out of D'Antoni's offensive playbook."

Glad to have Dan the other half of this great coaching tree at Marshall

That 4 weeks between the end of the NBA season and the start of the next are really hard to get through.

At least ESPN's talking heads have something to obsess about again.

Maybe this is just me, but I'm not much of a Mike D'Antoni fan. He strung Marshall's AD along for months when he never had any intention of taking the job, waited until the last viable option available to us was sharpening the pencils in his new office at Fill-in-the-Blank U, and then handed us his brother as our new hire.

Even if DD pans out and we somehow win more games than we lose, I'll never forget he sort of wiped his ass with us.

Just curious how you know all of this to be true? For the record, I think DD is a solid hire. To get an assistant from the NBA like DD to come here with all of his expertise is way better than some guy who had 1-2 good seasons at Fairmont State or another assistant coach from some P5 school who either flops(Herron) or takes off at the first opportunity that arises(Donnavon) IMO.

I existed during the 2014 Roman Calendar year.
nice come back bro. For the life of me I don't get downing Mike. He was huge in helping us get the new IPF. Having a former basketball player coach in the NBA ranks is big. Having a former player who is credited by almost everyone with changing the way basketball is played in the NBA is even bigger. I mean who can blame him for taking his time to decide if he wanted to come home and coach his Alma Mater or wait it out till he got another NBA gig? Having his brother here who was a part of this whole change is a blessing to a school like Marshall IMO

As with any coach, time will tell if DD was a good hire or not. It certainly was unconventional. There will always be some that find it all a conspiracy theory on MD's part. Those voices will get louder if we have hired yet another coach who will leave MU as every one since 1989 has. Not having made the tournament. Sicne this year's stated goal is to be "pretty good", that seems likely.

Honestly - the man has made more money ( in the USA) producing nothing than any other NBA coach going , what a fraternity.

When will people understand, he was only an assistant in the NBA because of his brother point blank.

herdalicious......YOU know nothing about Mike's intentions.
Mike never committed to Mike Hamrick to be Marshall's head basketball coach. There were HOPES & DREAMS from some of the HERD faithful, the Huntington media & social media that Mike would ride into Huntington to save the day.! It was never in the books. Just because Mike Hamrick flew to LA to consult with Mike D.....does not mean Mike D was accepting the job.

I said it before & I say it AGAIN....Marshall selected the right brother for the HERD job. Dan works & identifies well with young players (18-22). Dan won over 500 high school basketball games in S. Carolina. Dan has a pipeline to several high school coaches in America. Mike D does not have these contacts. MIKE is a PRO NBA COACH. PERIOD!

You are wrong...Mike would not wipe his ass with you. You mean nothing to him. Mike did not wipe his ass with Marshall (per your quote). The Dantoni Family loves Marshall. Many graduates of the Dantoni FAMILY from Marshall. Dan's daughter is a student presently....she could have attended any University in America.

Chris Duhan told me about two months ago..."Sure I want to be a head college coach SOMEDAY...I am where I want to be...LEARNING from a MASTER===Coach Dan D."

In the long run, Danny may be better at communicating with and teaching kids than Mike.

Tim...Time will tell.

I have known Dan since Junior High. I know his heart. He loves MARSHALL and his PLAN is to Re-Build HERD Hoops to the Glory Days. This could prove to be detrimental to our 2016 struggling football program---and going forward. Marshall fans are Spoiled & Fickle. And, that's OK...because HERD FANS LOVE being the "Little Train that Couldn't".

The more success that HERD HOOPS achieves---the more Fan$ will spend ($$$) to see them play. This could take away from our Football revenue. Marshall fans stretch the Dollar as far as they can. Our Fan Base is growing older---and since the "New Blood" receives their education @ 1 Marshall Drive...and then most move out of state to earn a living for themselves & their families...our Football future could be dim.

I hope I am wrong.....but my prediction is our Football Season Ticket Holders will decline. I predict HERD HOOPS attendance will increase. Football drives the revenue that our University needs...we are starting to bleed RED. We Need to return to Bleeding GREEN.

I go to most every practice. Let me tell you, Danny is a teacher. Unless you watch practice there is no way you can realize how much teaching goes on. Some of the other watchers that have been watching for years say that no other coach they have seen spends anywhere near the time Danny does in teaching. He is a stickler to detail. He sees everything that happens on the floor. He is in love with defense, It is his passion. He tells us he loved to play defense and steal the ball and score. He is passionate about it. He along with Rigot, Duhon and Cline are spending hours and hours teaching them the defense they want. He has told us all that it is much tougher to teach his offense so he spent the past couple years trying to get them comfortable with it. Now more time on defense.

With CJ Burks out, that otherwise soft OOC schedule just got a hell of a lot tougher............... there's games in there that were sure wins that may now be loses due to no depth at the guard spots.

I saw those as possible/probable Ws............. but now, after Browning or Elmore get tired/fouls............ there's no one there other than walk ons and freshmen.

If I were Dan, I'd pull Browning from the starting lineup and move Loop to SG. Go big with Taylor at the 3 and Thomson and a Euro under the hoop..... save some for the 2nd unit.

Until that teaching of Defense is translated to the court, I won't be convinced we won't be anymore than the mediocre basketball program we have been the last 40 years

you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. mike actually was going to take the job 100% but the lakers still had him under contract and were being pricks about it even though he was clearly not in there future plans. as it always seems to go in MU's case , bad timing wins out. Dan was the only Dantoni available at the time and Hamrick felt like he couldnt wait any longer on Mike so he hired Dan. just so happened that the lakers let Mike out of his contract the very next week..

Bad timing? That's awesome. Here, let me help you out with the rest of your myth:

When the terms of the buyout with the Lakers expired, Mike actually came to Dan and asked for a spot on his staff, but Dan was like, "Naw man, I got this!" So Mike said, "Oh well, I guess I'll go coach the Rockets and make $15 million dollars in three years, but the whole time I'll be wishing I was back in Huntington, playing Rice and dodging paint chips falling from the ceiling of the Henderson Center. You lucky bastard."

Mike has plenty of money and that has never been his motivation for coaching. if you ask him coaching Marshall has been a goal of his for a long time. he is not going to overstep Danny though. 100 % would have taken the job if he was not in contract with the Lakers. bad timing

do you actually believe that anyone here cares what you think? I'm on my way to practice now. I'm sure Danny will love your input

How many titles has mike won? None,,no defense is why. dan does a good job with what he has but the herd will play 500. Is that enough to get u excited?

Herdmister you might get a better idea of what it takes to win in college if he ever went and watched top 10 teams or even yet went and watched them practice. You are friends with dan so you are looking through green glasses. Herd is a long long way from being a top 50 team. I will watch the herd and next night be sitting in rupp watching ky and the difference i even close. Marshall has a terrible time getting pro caliber players. Check NBA rosters. Almost all coaches land big timer players but not the herd. We like 5'10' white boys from poco. lol Kenneth Farried from morehead is making 17 million in the pros

Guys, there have been a lot of good, and some "great" coaches in the NBA, as well as other professional sports who had fine careers but ultimately never won a title.

Since 1990, there are only a handful who have won a title.

What a great way to start the day. A cup of coffee, a cleansing BM, and then Crazy shows up and says....

In bold. This is why I come here.

Nerdalicious...if you do not respect me or believe me....just read what Herdmeister or Hensley has to say about Dan D. we are ALL intelligentguys---unlike your dumbass.

I rest my case.

Mike D has won a personal title...NBA Coach of the Year with the Sun. His comment to me..."Cuz Sweeney, that is old news...the next year or so--I will get fired from a head job---that's the life of a pro head coach." "But the good thing is head coaches (in all pro sports) are recycled and land later in another city."...quote Mike D.

Keaton, I spoke with Danny this afternoon. He is 100 percent in agreement, is going to abandon everything he has taught up to this point and install your system post haste. I'm thrilled! I think we'll turn at least sever more wins out of your advice and observations...

I would much rather have the type of player we have right now than those characters that we had in the recent past. I'm not talking about all of the recent players but the ones who wanted to run the show.
