Most embarrassing

Yeah it was lost in the first half where a timeout should have been called when we stuggled with a 1-3-1 for about 5 minutes. Went down and never recovered.

we played poorly tonight it happens. We had an exciting team this year, we just didn't get it done tonight. I think we have a lot to build on. It was one of the more exciting seasons we have had in years. When is the last time we went into the conference tournament with a legitimate shot to win it.

We couldn't throw it in the ocean and they couldn't miss. Plus we missed a million free throws you will have days like this. I'm excited for Marshall basketball for the first time in years.

When you play very little defense, Milton Midget League could shoot well.
Solid year though.

Guys this season has been a roller coaster ride. Hope DD recruits well for next season.

We lost this game due to lack of effort. I believe that is why you saw some starters sitting late in the game. I think Danny was sending a message for next year.

We don't have the quality depth yet to compete consistently with upper echelon of league in setting like the tournament. Tonight, we got NOTHING from 2 players who played well for most of the year: Elmore and Burks. Last night Elmore and Browning had off nights. Quite frankly, Elmore looked totally "confused" or lost the last two games. Other than that, only Bench help we got was from Thompson. Edmonds, playing essentially on one leg, did ok tonight at garbage time.

I honestly don't understand why D'Antoni let Rigot recruit some of the European players, if he wants to play the quick tempo, running type of offense that we are playing. They just don't fit that style, IMO. Believe Kelly was on the bench late because of his poor to nonexistent defensive effort in the game. Big forward for MTSU constantly beat Kelly off the dribble, driving with no resistance to the hole for dunks, etc.

This is one of the most embarrasing threads ever posted on this board. Why do some posters feel the need to go over the top with criticisms?

Truthfully, I can think of a lot more embarrasing games than this one but why drag that crap up from the past?

Tournament play is a different animal than the regular season. consecutive games on consecutive nights. This team has to learn to play in games like this. They are far from a finished product.

Truth be told, they might have struggled more during the season if CUSA hadn't been so weak this year.

It's time to step back, relax and look forward to incremental improvements next year and a possible berth in a buy in tourney this year.

No doubt, ridiculous. What a great season. Geeze.

It was just plain ole disappointing to come so far and then go flat. If we didn't have the bye maybe, but missing so many foul shots at this level of college ball is terrible.

Guys, we went more or less .500 against the best non-conference schedule we have played in decades and against a conference that is going to get a 14 or 15 seed spot. Some of us got over the top when the non-conference blowouts, some got over the top with the "improvements" when we got into this conference. And the end of the day, .500.

The systemic problems remain, which we all know.

Pack it up and try again next year.

This team needs more depth and must learn how to play defense. This team gets 50% better by just getting more stops on defense. The offense is in place.

btw, notice how MT went to a different defense every few times down the floor to make MU's offense adjust. This is what needs to take place.

Offense, defense, picket fence. It makes no difference because it will be yet another year where our team sits at home while we watch teams like Northeastern Southern Seaview State make it to the tourney. I was a young man the last time Marshall made it to the dance, and it looks like I will be long gone before the school ever goes back.

First half looked too much like the early part of the season.

Elmore's lack of production certainly did not help ( bad night to have your worst night of the abbreviated season he played).

However - think there will be agreement to the fact this team won more games than many expected especially after starting out with 6 losses.

A lot of personal growth regarding a number of players. Will be very beneficial next season.

When you consider everything from start to finish - while not what we all wanted , better than not making any progress as well as a better record overall than most here projected. And at least most of the games were exciting.

In the immortal words of the late Whitey Wilson....." wait till next year"

Looking forward to seeing the changes that will be made in the off season. Need to find a way for sure to begin playing defense.

We now return to football after this brief sports interruption......

I was in 3rd row behind the bench. I could hear everything Danny was saying, You hit the nail right on the head. Danny stuck to his guns and people sat. He's made it very clear the game is bigger than any one player.

performance I have ever witnessed by a Marshall team. Out coached, out played. We need more talent from what I see here tonight.
Really? LOL LOL LOL. I guess you missed the road loss at Ohio a few years ago with TH. We were beaten like a drum. We had a bad game yesterday and will improve next year. Go Herd!

One of my friend brought up something that on it's face sounded far out there to me but the it keeps niggling at the back of my consciousness. Most likely just coincidence but we were playing poorly early in the season, our asst. coach gets suspended for DWI and we play great for a while . . . his suspension is over, he comes back and we struggle again. College kids are still kids and attitudes rub off,. Maybe practice was all business while he was out and became "fun" again when he returned. They sure were goofing around warming up for Senior Night. I have experienced younger coaches sometimes being too much of a friend and not enough of an authority figure. Not saying this is what happened here but the timing was about right.

It wasn't the most embarrassing. But when you get to the semifinal game and you play that poorly. Lack of effort, flat whatever. It was bad!

It doesn't matter how old anyone is. I can guarantee you. I've seen more Marshall games than you in basketball and football.

You must have a very short memory or be very young. I guess the most recent embarrassing loss was 3-4 years ago when we lost at home in a pay to play tournament against Appalachian State. The tournament was set so we'd get to play every game at home.
Losing in a conference tournament to a team seeded higher than you and favored by Vegas odds is hardly an embarrassment.

God Bless Whitey Wilson, Platinum. You brought tears to my eyes. He dug into his own pocket 'a many 'a time to feed our boys. A truer son of Marshall never born. Most of these posters on here don't realize how far we've come.

Man o man, Tim, when I got to MU, Neal B. "Whitey" Wilson was the AD. Man had to own the first Lincoln Continental in Huntington, I'll bet. Remember walking north along 18th Street towards Gullickson Hall and Whitey would come driving by. That car had to be a half a city block long, it seemed to this then teenager from rural southern WV. Everything I heard about MU athletics staying afloat at that time came back to Whitey Wilson putting a significant amount of his own money into the program. Given the state of our athletic department overall today, a lot of credit and gratitude is owed by Herd fans to Mr. Wilson.

You are certainly correct. Always had time to talk to any student. Ed Starling was another who doesn't get enough credit. I'd forgotten about Whitey's ole Continental. Seems to me like it was a lighter color like silver or blue?

Reality therapy time:

This team played .500 ball.

This team finished tied for 3rd thru 5th in the league and lost the semi-finals.

None of our non-conference wins were other than teams with losing records in one-bid leagues.

This league's champion was seeded 15th. The only leagues seeded lower were the two HBCU leagues (which do not belong in Div I) , the A-Sun, the NEC, the OVC, and the Patriot. Our league is equal with the Big South, the WAC, and the Big Sky in seeding.

The team deserves credit for not quiting after a solid non-conference schedule where we really did not win any legitimate games, but it is important not to get ahead of ourselves with all of this "improvement" spin.

You have to be kidding US---the real sam c......For the first time in many years, Marshall folks were not saying..."When does football practice start?" I drove from Charlotte to Huntington for a few games and The Cam was electric with HERD HOOPS. I am biased because of my relationship with DD (cuz-in-law)......I support the team exceeded expectations after an 0-6 start with losses to teams that we would have defeated after January. We will never know (because Marshall can not go back and replay the games)...but I doubt we lose to The Vols (after January) when The Herd surrendered a 16 point lead in the second half in Knoxville. I support The HERD does not lose to Morehead State, JMU, Akron & Ohio...after January when the team began to believe in themselves. Granted The HERD lost three in a row (@ UAB, @ MTSU & La Tech @ home) and came from 26 down to defeat S. Miss in Huntington to close the season. Therefore, MU limped into Birmingham and got a revenge victory over UTEP (lost there Feb. 4---112-108). MTSU was a hot team (7-3) going into the CUSA tourney and they EARNED the Crown. Congrats to their Ladies too...victors over ODU in the title game. CUSA is a weak league in both football & basketball....but we need to enjoy supporting our student athletes. CUSA is the best league we have available to Marshall presently. Our players are earning degrees and "keeping their noses clean" and representing Marshall well. The HERD pep band & cheerleaders stayed in the same Birmingham hotel we did-----I am proud to say ALL of THEM were fine young men & women and they present a GREAT HANDSHAKE for our University. I visited Purdue after our football game with them. Two of their football players (I met in their student store) were quick to say....."We have NEVER been treated better on the road by any team--than at Marshall.......we are treated like crap at the ohio state." I chose to look on " the positive side" of life. There are too many folks with Negative Thoughts in America today.

Closing...PLEASE tell us you are not a "Donald Trump guy?" If you are...then I can see why you are not happy with the progress that DD & his staff have given to Marshall. I can't wait until next December when.....WE WILL HERD------BRING ON THE WEST VIRGINIA HERD!"

Hey, I hope Marshall wins every game in every sport, every year.

But it is important to keep perspective. We are not the Spamies. The Spamies are told idiocy and actually believe it. To be a Marshall fan is to really understand college sports.

We had a .500 season. We did not win any test games in the non-conference. We finished 3rd-ish in a 15th seed one-bid conference.

This season reminds me of USPAM's 2003 football team. Assreamed 4 out of the first 5, including Maryland 34-7, then it opened its box of cupcakes joke conference and won 7 in a row. All of the USPAM idiot lap dog media was spewing about "improvement" and "growth" and whatever. Then Maryland assreamed them 41-7. The team had not improved a bit. It had just moved from legitimate competition to the Leastleftover cupcakes.

Is this season an improvement over last year? Yes.

Is this season an improvement over the previous lackluster era of medicre play going back 4 or 5 coaches, none of which should have been hired in the first place? Yes.

Is the story of actually trying to win with actual West Virginians at the actual University of West Virginia a good one that actually had even non-Marshall West Virginians interested in the program? Yes. I have had several hard core Spamites talk up MU to me and show an interest in our local kids doing well.

Did the team improve from Novemeber to March? Don't know. The quality of the competition declined so greatly no one can say.

This response means that either you're a teenager (at least mentally) or that pretty old and just not very intelligent. Not only does it not matter how many games you've seen, but you mistook my comment. It was directed at the content of the post, not your actual age.
