Do you ever wonder about these things? I just sat through some of that stuff. We get the guy's bio and he has done this and that. Had this company and that company/ It was worth billions or millions. They read it for about 5 minutes. Then, I am pondering to myself. If this guy has done this and that and made all this and that why the hell is he here in this hotel room talking about be motivated to sell and you need to do it these seven easy steps? If the dude made all that money and sold all this and that and had all these companies why is he here doing this? These dudes will be like 60 years old and supposedly worth a billion but in the hotel speaking to a bunch of crusty old farts like me or wet behind the ears Millenials.

I don't get motivated by it. I would rather them hire like a traveling circus or a comedian to stand up there and talk. That is more motivating. Maybe a guy with one of those little monkeys that rides the bicycle around with a cowboy hat on.f

Now some of the pure motivational speakers, I can get that. Dude lost a leg to a shark and his dad beat him to a pulp until he had to shoot him and then got 6 college degrees while working 8 jobs. Ok I can get that. But, the dude who had all these companies and then goes around providing his 27 steps to success and is going from city to city selling it? That is not motivational. Wow, can't wait to make a billion and travel the country talking about how sell shit and update CRM software in my spare time.

Not sure what any of these conferences accomplish. I had a close relative who had no choice about attending a recent diversity conference. She was one of only six white women there and the speaker spent the whole week screaming at them that they were racist simply because of their color and there was nothing they could do about it. He said he could read their minds.

I would love for them to read my mind. they would end up in confused and in a psych ward.

I always wonder how much money my company (or any company for that matter) spends on these speakers. Ten or so years ago, I was at a large global conference that one of our partners was having. As an intro to one of the sessions, they had this team (had to have been at least six people) maneuver a skeleton type creature that looked like it came from Burning Man. After they completed their performance, the CEO took the stage and said they saw them perform in Barcelona and knew they had to fly them in (from halfway across the globe) because they do such a beautiful job. Employees of that company were pissed because they had recently gone through another round of WFR, and there was absolutely no link between the performance or skeleton creature and any of the announcements being made at the event.

I had one sales training in my life that was worth it. It was a 3 day deal with a lot of role playing, you had to do sales pitches too, and in front of, your peers. You got to be the customer or a board member in some scenarios. You received immediate group feedback.
