We all know our basketball team isn't up to par, but I was just wondering if anyone knew why D'antoni kept most of our starters out (Loop and Edmonds especially) for over half the game? Mijovic saw more playing time than Loop tonight I think. Browning did a great job as a starter and he was in for most of the game, but Kelly didn't play after the first half until there was less than 5 minutes left in the second half.

Also the 3's. We just can't make them reliably enough to ALWAYS go for a 3. 13-3 with us missing 4 or 5 threes in a row is not a good start.

And the rebounds - they rebounded their own foulshots multiple times and got off 3-4 shots under the basket more than once. Anyone can make a basket with that many chances.

Good observation on the 3's there, 09. We're not much more of a threat on those 2's either

But, we can't give up on them this early...it's a looooooooong season.

You are absolutely correct, it is and will be a loooooooooooog season.

Our "fast break" is for someone to dribble to half court make one pass and then someone fires a 3 with no rebounders under the basket

5-pointers from just over mid-court. Remember the funny movie "the Gang That Couldn't Shoot Straight"...
we are that gang !!!

i thought browning played great. he is our best guard.proud of that logan boy. When he gets the green light watch out. I have talked to him. Met him last winter at a fifth grade game in kenova. He had a brother who is good too. He is my favorite player. He is cat quick

You are right about JMU scoring on us off their own missed foul shots. They had a huge advantage in overall rebounds too. So frustrating watching us not box out.

Loop, Edmunds and Kelly were not playing well. No motion in the offense and not playing great defense. At one point in the last 13 minutes of the game, we had 4 freshmen and 1 junior playing and we were doing much better with our offense and defense (rebounding was still an issue but not as important because we were hitting a higher pecentage of our 3 point shots and driving more to the basket). I believe Coach D'antoni is going to play the players that will play his style of basketball. As we move forward, I believe all players will be contributing. Old habits die hard. It was certainly fun to watch the last 13 minutes of the game. We need to obviuosly increase the productive time in a game, and I believe that will come.

listened to it on Tune in radio and that was my take as well

We apparently have NO ONE on the staff who is good at working with big men. When we made our second half run, JMU responded by either driving to the basket and then either making shots or following up their misses with easy put backs. Or else they went to their big center down low who backed Milan down, made the same drop step over and over and laid in 2 and 3 foot left handed hook shots ALL NIGHT!. We have a 6'9" guy, slow, with no foot work who doesn't know how to hold his position on defense. HE NEEDS COACHING!! On many JMU misses he was pushed so far under the goal he was in no position to rebound. We have Danny and Duhon who should, by their history, be working with guards and on shooting. Apparently we have no one who is capable of working on our post play, rebounding and offense/defense in the paint.

Personally, can't see why Danny wants the up tempo, pressing offense, but then why get slow, lumbering foreign players who don't fit that style? He should take a look at a school like Belmont, who plays the same style, and recruits athletic 6'6'-6'8" players for the front court who can shoot, handle the ball and run. People say that players like Sane, Kambola last year don't fit Danny's style, but they were more productive than our interior post players this year so far. The two new bigs we have this season need serious weight room and conditioning work to play Danny's style and to compete at our D1 level. Trading projects from Africa or Canada for projects from Eastern Europe is not going to turn our basketball program around, folks, especially if, as it appears, we lack the coaching to develop said projects.

Realistically speaking, D'Antoni will be our coach until he either develops the players, program he believes will make us proud of Marshall Basketball again or he shows that he can't do it. Like or not, he will be given the time to show one of these outcomes. I will remain supportive and hopeful until then.

OK, here goes. DD will be here until as noted, he makes it work or it becomes so obvious that he cannot that the fans vote with their feet and stay away in numbers we have never seen here.

Here is the deal. This is Marshall basketball. Bus to Charleston's inadequate airport. Split up among multiple airlines, hope everything goes OK, see inside of ATL or CLT again. End up somewhere. Bus to motel. Bus to game. Bus a couple hundred to second game. Repeat air travel in reverse, learn even more about CLT or ATL. Land at CRW. Bus back to dorms.

It is life in CUSA. Until we get the $$ to charter every game, period, or CUSA changes, this is what we are.

And a smart kid knows that. And if you are good enough to play at MU, you are good enough to play 90 other places with more compact leagues. So we get West Virginians, eastern Europeans, and people that really are not good enough.

Sisters and I were talking coming back from the game about why DD's fascination with European and WV players. I understand the reason for getting WV players, but the talent level has dropped off a lot over the past few years. DD would be better advised to get players up the street from Huntington Prep.

oldeherd if I'm not mistaken, and often I am, Cline is "supposed" to "coach" the bigs. However, if you ever drop by a practice it will leave you with even more questions.
