Chalk up yet another campaign promise fulfilled from Trump. He has successfully renegotiated NAFTA. The new agreement is being called “USMCA,” which is short for “United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement.”

Personally...I think calling it “US MEXI-CAN” would sound better.

Your headline....do you realize NAFTA is in fact still in place, and that this new pact has to be approved by Congress?

I wouldn't get into a MAGA circle-jerk just yet.

Good news is raising the % of a vehicle that must be made in North America. Bad news is it can still be made in Mexico. Good news is automakers have to pay Mexicans $16hr to at least 40-45% of autoworkers in final assembly. The bad news is this means American autoworkers will have to make less to split the difference. $16 is a lot in Mexico, let's all go get jobs south of the border.

I’m fully aware of the timeline here. But today marks the effective end of NAFTA as we know it.

It will be interesting to see Democrats try to spin this one.

I am sure there will be dickering over worker and environmental protections, as with the original passage of NAFTA, to get enough Democrats on board.
